In July 2019 I bought the 35th anniversary all metal G-Shock.

This

In January this year I had to send it off for a warranty repair as it wasn't charging via the solar array.

Last week, the fault recurred and I sent it back for a second warranty repair.

This morning I received a letter telling me that they are waiting for parts and cannot repair until they arrive. No forecast date given.

The watch cost £400 and has failed twice in 12 months. Twice I've paid £8.80 for Royal Mail Special Delivery.

Do you think I am justified in asking for a new replacement?

Yes, can't hurt to ask (and for that £16 too). Bummer. Lovely looking watch though, I'd still be pleased with the purchase.

You're justified in asking but the choice to repair or replace is at manufacturer discretion.

That said, amongst other reasons you're entitled to a refund if a previous repair was unsuccessful or if a repair would take an "unreasonable" amount of time. So you've two grounds there. Maybe talk to them asking for a refund under CRA and then 'accept' a replacement?

Not like the olden days ones from Argos/Elizabeth Duke. Yours doesn't even have that submarine game.

Lovely looking watch. Have you seen the new Ti GW5600 version they've put out? Lush, but about $1200...

Fantastic watches! It’s a shame you’re having problems.

I have the aged IP version, and a spare Camo Ti bezel to swap over. I also have the new Tron version, I’m a bit of a fan of these metal square g shocks 👍

That looks lovely.
I Love a G-Shock, have owned them since the late eighties/early nineties. Wouldn’t buy anything else...they just make sense for outdoor stuff and I competed in rallying for ~17yrs (where reliable timing is critical).
My first change of manufacturer was a shift to garmin 12mths ago which felt really odd after decades of brand loyalty.
Then, my non-watch wearing, (adult) son received a package in the post a few weeks ago, he’d bought himself a G-Shock. Definitely a proud dad moment.

Never understood the love for these old Casio watches; they look a bit  "my first watch"  for my taste...But that's besides the point. I think a nicely worded email full of woe and disappointment would be my choice if you're aiming for a replacement rather than a table thumping shit-o-gram. But still, that much cash and for it to go wrong would test the patience of Jude, so hope you get it sorted.

Pffft, I am 53 and I still have my Casio Scientific Calculator that I bought when I was 15. It still works and it is still on the original Casio branded batteries.

I won't have a bad word said about them 😉

I have to say I'm considering getting a Garmin Instinct Solar, purely cos it looks like a Casio 🙂

Sorry about your G-Shock woes Derek, I'm a big fan of Casio but usually at the lower priced end of their offerings and never had any issues with those.

Pffft, I am 53 and I still have my Casio Scientific Calculator that I bought when I was 15

I've still got my A201 which I bought in (I think) 1981 for the princely sum of £30.

I've just put a new battery in and it more or less works fine. I say more or less because the top right button isn't working, so I'm doomed to hourly and half-hourly time signals and a daily alarm at 5am. And no backlight. Some optimist is after a grand on ebay for one but then maybe he's got more of the chrome still on the case, no LCD bleed, fewer scratches, and all his buttons work.

And check this out, it's like something from the future I tell you!

Still using my fx-450 solar calculator. Held together with black gaffer tape to stop the case flapping about. Amazed the ribbon cable connecting the two parts hasn’t fractured.

You won’t regret that.

i sold my expensive g shock as I wasn’t quite happy with it, it was a bit meh for the money, imo the cheaper ones are the go to, but as I have an Instinct already there was no point buying one.

Today I requested that Casio refund my postal costs:

Please reimburse 2x £7.50 for Royal Mail Special Delivery costs incurred by having to return a watch, purchased in July 2019, for repair twice.

I don’t have the receipt for the costs from January 2020 but have included an image of your invoice for the repair to prove I returned the watch.

I understand that a receipt is the first choice but given the circumstances and associated inconvenience I have suffered, I would expect that, out of good faith, you will reimburse me.

I included a photo of the receipt from last week but couldn't find the one from January.

Casio reply:

Good Afternoon Neil,

Thank you for contacting Casio.

We appreciate you for providing proof of postage for sending your repair in on 05/08/2020.

However, please note that we would also require a proof of postage for your repair in Januray 2020, for a refund to be processed.

Set of bastards eh?

I've still got an FX-451. Ribbon cable failure was a common fault, usually by people bending them beyond flat.

Why don't you request a refund of your purchase costs?

Fair question.

I'll have a look at the CRA to get my house in order.

My dad had a similar experience with Omega. Brand new, watch went for repair four times, he was without it for 16 months over a 2 year period. Dreadful customer service.
