We've had a few CFLs (aka energy saving lightbulbs) in our living room that are expressly marked as dimmable and rather expensive - so presumably come with some fancy circuitry inside. They definitely have a chunky base to them. At least two different brands, and each doesn't last longer than about 3-6 months before popping.
I think our dimmer switches are crappy though. They are bargain basement and they buzz a bit too. Can you get better quality ones that hopefully won't kill our cfls?
