Does such a thing exist? Need to light up a small area, but to be able to control the light level. I can vary my night riding lights, surely something like a variable work light exists? (i.e. more floody, LED or otherwise)
Battery power or mains would work fine.
Anything with a transformer in it isn't got to work with an external dimmer. You'd probably be ok with old fashioned 250w or 500w halogens (nasty things - tend to set things on fire)
For something portable and controllable maybe look at lights for video or photography
Yeah, they're quite pricey for a decent amount of light though. And have features I don't really care about (lightweight, battery power although nice isn't needed, colour temperature etc).
Just wondered that as I can vary the brightness on my MTB lights, why aren't there site lights like that, but a bit bigger/more floody.
I can vary the brightness on my MTB lights
which is why they cost a lot more than a work light. LEDs are 'dimmed' by strobing them at different speeds, its not just a case of turning the power up and down
If power consumption isn't too much of an issue then more conventional video lights (a legitimate reason to google 'Redheads' and 'Blondes') will give you more dimmer-able light for your money. And they've been around for a long time so plenty of second hand stock about
Well, they don't cost that much more - mine was about £60, including a battery and charger which isn't something I care that much about.
Good call on conventional video lights, will have a look-see.
Can I ask why? Surely its either bright enough to work or it isn't or do you need a little mood lighting when you are alone with your bike? 😉
Not for the bike (hence chat forum), for some work stuff where I need to test some things in different amounts of light.
Anyway, as any fool know, it's all about the candle lit bike [s]romancing[/s] maintenance, got to get it in the mood before you stick your tool in there 😉
