Brief background: 15 years in civil service jobs mainly in some form of project role at first management grade across different departments. In alot of them I've been involved in some form of online content but only in latest job has this been a dedicated role. I don't have the force of personality to get prompted in typical civil service roles or to excel in project mgt. So I was wondering if there's anyone here who faced similar and went down the digital route? Any obvious qualifications or training? Programming?
Bit of a stream of consciousness but I'm keen to earn more and don't see that in the generic civil service route of just managing people.
I like my spreadsheets, technical stuff and at a stretch data analytics. Well that's what I've found I'm good at in the past.
Thanks for reading.
One time Civil Service IT here. The Civil Service was ditching in-house IT last time I was involved which is when I got out. Things may have changed. Ironically I joined to get the IT training at a time when they were keen to get people in to replace those they had trained up and who were quitting for better money elsewhere. It sounds like you are looking for a less pure IT role which may fit the current Civil Service better.

If you think you need to have a 'force of personality' for project management, then yep probably best not to do it. The best PMs are the ones who know how to talk to people and get things done, not the ones with big self important approaches!
If you want to look for an area to apply technical skills to, look at DevOps type roles, they can be some of the better paid depending on where you are located!
