Digital audio workstation software - Recommendations ?
The GF's boy has got into ^^^ at school and they use Logic Pro (Mac). I cant afford that and I hav'nt got a MAc 🙁
I was wondering if you guys got any recommendations for DAW software, preferably free, open source 🙂 for the PC.
Last time I did midi stuff it was on the Atari ST.
Thanks.
Reaper has a 60 day trial period, but continues to work after that. Think it's about £60 to buy so doesn't quite fit in the free bracket
If you think you might be needing a quality audio interface tin the near future, bear in mind these often bundle some sort of software, so might be worth looking at now.
yeah Reaper is about your only option I would say, but it's only actually $60 (not pounds) which is a total bargain for what you get.
I use Cubase AI which came free with my Zoom R16 portable studio. Thinking of upgrading to Cubase Elements soon. £80 for the full product
I've heard good things about Reaper.
Is this for you or the boy? Steinberg do student discounts (or they did the last time I checked), others might too

Ableton used to do pretty decent student prices. Not sure if they still do.
Live is an awesome bit of kit.

Powerful app, but no Windows version? Mac & Linux only isn't it?
they have an 'intro' version for around 70eur where the main limitation i think its that you can only run 16 tracks at the same time.Ableton used to do pretty decent student prices
Live is indeed fantastic, love it.
Ableton is discounted at the moment, Live Intro you can get for just over £40.
Download the trial version to see if its any good for you.
