Yes I know, it could be one of several things.
The question is, can it be safely driven 4-5 miles to the nearest garage for diagnosis & repair?

It could be one of several things. It's impossible to answer your question without knowing why it's misfiring. If it was me, I'd drive it, it'll probably be ok if warning lights aren't going off, but if you want 100% safety, get it towed in.
Who knows, depends what it is.
If it goes with the odd misfire I'd drive it.
Bit most importantly I'd ideally be getting it to the garage I trust rather than just the closest.

We have "Engine Malfunction!" (2008 Ford Kuga 2.0 TDCI).

No, its running on 2-3 cylinders from the start.
It's either lack of compression or incorrect fuelling if it's missing.
I'd tow it given a choice but it depends how many miles it's already done whilst being faulty.
Or the old 2.0tdci failed wet bath injector oil seal.
Makes em sound like they are down a cylinder or two.
I'd drive it but it would be better if you had a back up plan incase it decides it's had enough. And if any of the route is nsl. Forget it.
Well, one of the injectors did leak a while back but hasn't since it was serviced and cleaned up last year, and the belt/pump has just been done.
It's not bee driven, Mrs K started it in the garage and stopped it straight away, then I started it again to try to diagnose. Unlikely to be incorrect fuelling, she's been putting diesel in it for 14 years, hasn't fuelled it for a week or so within which we've both driven it a fair bit, and it has one of those anti-thingy fuel caps.
I'll check whether our AA has home start & tow to nearest, otherwise its going to get costly. I do have a local literally at the end of the drive, but its just changed ownership so I've no trust/relationship - it could be pushed there in a minute or so, our trusted garage is 4 miles away. Need to think on that - as its an old banger maybe it doesn't matter if I test the relationship with it.

When he says incorrect fuelling he didn't mean she put the incorrect fuel in it, he meant that the fuel pump and/or injectors are all working correctly or not, ie the fuel is being delivered to the cylinders correctly.
the belt/pump has just been done.
How recently.....this would make me think twice about driving it.

Which pump? Fuel pump? If so,how recently? I'd be suspecting that ,if it was very recent.
Water pump & Cam belt - about a month / 200 miles ago. The belt was still there when I gazed into the engine bay like I looked like I knew what I was doing. I'll get the trusted garage - who did the belt & pump also - to come & collect it then if there's anything wrong then they can swallow that one.
Thanks for the advice, don't you just love bangernomics!
How the hell is that Bangernomics?
It's not.
