Ok im looking for a little advise or second opinions on weather to change my car or not as money wise the time is right and i think if i wait any longer the value of my car will drop quicker than later .
At the moment my petrol Honda has not put a foot wrong in the last 3 years costing nothing apart from a battery ,tire and general servicing (which I have to add cost nothing thanks to a servicing plan from work where i get a set amount a year to service mine and my wifes car rather than a company car )
I also get fuel every week (work in the haulage business so have our own in house tank ) which my wife uses in the family car as she does more miles than me around 12k-14 a year as apposed to my 4k a year ,basically my car is used for rainy days as i ride to work and its just a glorified bike carrier ..And here lies my dilemma should i bother changing to a newer car ? which would be diesel . which would be free to run fuel wise , £170 a year less to tax .but without doing the mileage or am i risking problems with a car that really should be stretching its legs every week rather than the or longer run every month (see diesel dpf problems 😉
I know it basically sounds like a first world problem ,it just grates me paying for fuel when its there for free
There's the BIK cost of the fuel to take into account too mind.
Stick.
Much cheaper.
Just make sure it has at least a sticker with a picture of a leaf and ideally a big button which says eco on it.
This will make everything groovy.
@Perchy Ive just been reading the woos of having a dirty oil burner .. im sure a hemp sticker with please the green party
Get a new one and get your Mrs to give it a decent run once a week?

I am generally in the better the devil you know camp.
You do 4,000 miles per year. (What's that...£500 a year in fuel?)
It's non-essential transport (if it breaks down, you already cycle to work)
It's only 3 years old and presumably low mileage, and there is nothing wrong with with it.
To realise the 'free' fuel, you want a more expensive diesel that will probably won't run well due to low miles, and has lots of expensive bits that can go wrong. Resale may also suffer as diesel is going out of fashion (at least in smaller cars)
Even if you are a very shrewd haggler and get a good deal with no finance, I bet you'll still be looking at two or three years before you actually profit from the free fuel (and you'll ride to work less if the fuel is free!)
Actually, with the higher depreciation on a newer car, you'll probably never see any profit. You've had the worst of the depreciation on your 3yr Honda already, it levels off now it's been out of the showroom a few years.
Finally, you'd feel a right plum if your employer pulls the plug on the free fuel perk!
I also get fuel every week (work in the haulage business so have our own in house tank ) which my wife uses in the family car
Get an electric and plug it in at worrk so you continue to get free fuel.
The British tax man is obviously a lot less rigorous about perks than the French one.
Exactly how do you get this fuel for free?
Surely there is tax to pay on your non commercial use? As already pointed out a benefit in kind?
Sod it after checking this year's milage on mine 3129 there seems no real reason to swap cars, money in the bank instead. .
