The humble Raspberry Pi was 10. 46m units later and still going strong. I have a few dotted around the house and they're just brill. Happy Birthday little computer thing...

45.5 million of them are sitting in a draw unloved waiting for the owner to find some time for that project they have in mind...
I must confess, i have 4 of them. Only two of them are functional. And one of those is waiting for me to bodge a case together (for a nature cam).

I know mine is.
Well the very first thing to do with an unused Pi is to set up a Pi-Hole. Completely revolutionises home internet use 🙂
Well did hit my late 30s yesterday… 😉
Maybe this is the place to ask if anyone has one sitting in a drawer that they don’t want anymore? 🙂
supply has been patchy for a while for so if you wanted to sell them rather than just let them rot now is the time! Or just donate them to a local school/group/nerd 😎45.5 million of them are sitting in a draw unloved waiting for the owner to find some time for that project they have in mind…
I recently dug out my old Pi B (the first one I bought) for this project:
https://www.nathanmediaservices.co.uk/teletext-viewer/
as my old plasma telly which is still in use has a teletext decoder! There's other teletext servers available from the internet via enthusiasts too, one even has Bamboozle & Digitiser on it 🤣
I must have about a dozen of the various types, most have a use (though not necessarily used every day!) and the rest with projects in mind, just a question of finding the time!! Hoping for another lockdown 🤣 (joke 😬)
Happy Birthday !
I ran a weather station on one for 8 years or more, but a recent storm destroyed the weather station bit. Passed everything onto a friend for him to use
- I now run a Sanlogic station which just works. Is a bit boring but it does just work 🙂
Will try the Pi Hole thing.
To be fair I think the Pi got gazumped by the BBC Microbit. Not as powerful but a lot easier for kids to get their heads around.
Unfortunately, I don't think either have been particularly successful with the core aim - I don't know any teachers who actually use either system 🙁 Pis are extremely popular with hobbyists/enthusiasts though, so that's one good thing at least! To be fair I think the Pi got gazumped by the BBC Microbit. I have to say, I like the idea of the Pi-Hole, but scanning through the description, I don’t understand 90% of what’s being discussed! Once it gets into details about settings, it might as well be in Welsh as far as my level of understanding goes.
Pi, 10 years of VC purchased hype \o/
(oh and the lies and public attacks on competing products that were cheaper and better)

The nice thing about Pi-Hole is you do not have to understand it. I set mine up, plugged it into a spare ethernet port on my router, pointed my DNS at it and poof, as if by magic no more ads on anything except Facebook where they are embedded.
And it strips them out of any mobile browsing device on the same wifi connection. Just brilliant.
Using a PC at work for eg is just plane odd as you realise just how many ads there are all over everything.
