Had a stunning view of snow capped mountains on my wizz air flight from Gatwick recently. Flight path seems to go over Austria. Got some nice pics with the new pixel zoom lens but also thought I recognised the silhouette of one in the distance as we 1st approached the mountains.

These were further on once above the mountains trying out the zoom.

It was a real treat getting to see proper snow capped mountains on my way to a beach holiday.

I've just redone this whole post as the original that had 2 replies completely disappeared when I did an edit.

I can't see a picture, but isn't the Matterhorn on the border between Switzerland and Italy, a fair bit to the south west of the Austrian border?

When I originally submitted this post it had all the photos and two people had replied. It then disappeared for 20 mins and said it was in moderation. Now it's reappeared without the photos and replies 😤

Yeah I was disappointed by that news of the iconic chocolate bar of my youthful travel days. It was always a real excitement to buy one of those giant bars in duty free. Proper break your teeth solid they were back in those days.

This outline from online source seems to match pretty well...

Picture heavy opening posts get filtered by the anti spam, I published it but there were no photo links. No idea why.

Won’t be long before it disappears from the packaging.

My mate and his son got to the Solway hut but then had to be helicoptered off Cliffhanger style!

He still hasn't told his wife how much that cost!

It posted fine with the pics and some replies then disappeared. Odd

@yak- that's a thing of the past now, they're removing any reference to the 'horn as Toblerone isn't made over here anymore! A crime in my opinion! 😀

My Toblerone relayed witty reply didn't pass moderation - presumably not witty enough

Yeah occasionally it doesn’t get picked up on straight away.

Did I see the Matterhorn?

No, that's Monte Cervino

See if you can find it in this photo

When flying south from Munich for work I used to enjoy picking off the hills that I had ridden.... Tegernseer Berge, Blauberge, Zillertal, Sterzing.... Glad to say I've not flown for years.

Spent a couple of birthdays in Zermatt staring at the Matterhorn, very distinctive and you get a great view on the Gornegrat glacier train. Quite sobering is the English Graveyard which is full of people who fell off the mountain.
I doubt you saw it on the way from the UK to Austria but you may have seen Glodis which is in the Tyrol that looks very like it. I flew to Vienna every 2 weeks for a year for work and used to see it occasionally.

Some gorgeous photos in this thread, glad I clicked on it even though I still have no idea if you saw it.

I can't see any photos apart from the Toblerone one ... I think Firefox does this a lot on this site.

If you find a nice generic looking mountain you could try seeing if it will make the new packaging 😬

A couple of pictures of the Matterhorn from when we spent a week in Zermatt riding the trails.

I was on the way to Egypt but the internet suggests the flight path would have been over Austria though the view of that peak was quite far in the distance back towards the direction Italy etc would be in.

I need to check the route, I’m flying to Rome in May, I think a short Alps crossing happens, I’d like to see those views!

For perspective this was the original photo that I had zoomed in on. So it's quite far away from our actual flight path.

I believe Mont Cervino is also in this pic that I took from the top of Lancebranlette on the French Italian border in Aug 2020.

We're hoping to go back to Lancebranlette this summer as a sort of memorial to our lab Beech who we said goodbye to in October. She climbed it with us aged 12.

It's interesting that it looks so different from the Italian side

Awesome part of the world. Skied under it on both Italian and swiss sides on a few occassions. Definately more sterotypical view in Switzerland and I'd love to go biking there one summer (££££!)

Great day's skiing
