Our house overlooks the River Irwell in Rossendale - couple of families of ducks with the usual recent brood of ducklings each.

Just got in from work tonight to hear commotion in the river - 2 Springer/spaniel types are ragging up and down chasing ducks and ducklings.
Went out and confronted owner to be met by mouth breathing meathead giving me shit for having the temerity to ask him to get the dogs on leads and out of the river as they are killing ducklings.

Mummy duck now paddling up and down squawking for them without success.

Also local FB group has post of lamb ragged and put down by offlead dog.

Im a dog owner and i ****ing hate the owners of fouling off lead garden dwelling dogs with no control.

Free choccy Hobnobs supplied for this discussion.

Shoot the owner and adopt the dogs.

Win-win for society.

Just wound the owner, so a fox can come in and finish them off.

I was preparing to bum him and hammer frozen sausages in the ducklings. Is that the correct order? I cant remember the previous STW thread on similiar.

He’ll be back - he lives local. I’ll have bombers, and frozen sausages ready for next time.

Get bigger dogs to eat his dogs.

It's the country way.

As far as the lambs are concerned, the farmer has the right to shoot the dog, no question. Pity the same can’t be done for the ducklings, although filming the dogs and their owner and posting to Fb and linking to local police and RSPCA might get a result in future.
I’d have happily pushed the ****wit into the river...

What a prick. Hammer frozen sausage in to his shins and steal the dogs. Do this whilst dressed as a duck obviously

Some time ago I remonstrated with a bloke whose small child was running around kicking geese in the park. "How would you like it if I kicked you in the arse"? I said. He then shouted at me for swearing in front of his brat. I should have pushed them both in the ****ing pond - but I'm a 9 stone weakling.

Wonder if that will work ...

... the farmer has the right to shoot the dog ...

The farmer should if the owner cannot control their dogs.

p/s: don't eat the dogs just adopt them ...

This type of dog owner is what puts me off getting a dog. I know they are a small minority but it would make taking the dog for a walk not the relaxing activity it should be.

I'm with you; these things annoy me more since becoming a dog owner. Or, rather, since being owned by two sighthounds...

He’ll be back – he lives local

In that case I'd be ready to video him next time. I'm sure the RSPCA (or would it be RSPB?) would be interested, possibly the police.

As others have said, get him filmed and upload onto the local Facebook group. If you can find any mangled ducklings then post photos of them too. Sit back and let the angry mob take care of him.

Apparently there's no logical fallacy for banning me for wishing out dear leader Boris dead, but it's ok to push people in the river and shoot people & hope for the best? rant over.

Hopefully I won't get banned straight away.

Back on topic, I walk my dog and ride my bike on the same routes, and recently the most annoying thing is idiots.

Not ringing bells, cycling too fast, and people on electric vehicles, I've never seen so many prats on full bouncer e-things doing 20mph+ down the tow path.

Makes my blood boil.

I Have to keep my dog on his lead for fear some ebike rider will decapitate him

Reminds me of the Billy Connolly sketch about dogs and *wits, shoot the f*** and cut it's balls off!

On topic, more than grates on me how some owners let their dogs carry on without a care for anyone or anything else. We've two Cockers and walk/ run with them over the fields here, last week the cattle were put out and so it stands to reason alternate routes are used, but can guarantee that there'll be more than a few 'Fenton' incidents especially with the increased use of the paths.. The farmers have had to put out social media posts reminding folks to pick up mess and keep dogs on leads, you'd think it common sense in areas where there are cattle and crops, but it seems not.

on full bouncer e-things doing 20mph+ down the tow path.

"at the 15.5mph limit their eBikes pedal assistance is restricted to" is what I am sure you meant 😉

Haven't you heard - it's the new EBike Polo. You carry a machete, ride around the park:
10 points for a spaniel, 20 for a labrador, 50 for a chihuauhua. Fun times.

Ah, but I bet they’re working spaniels.

Ah, but I bet they’re working spaniels.

That's an acute observation. It is a term I've heard used a couple of times when I could have sworn that the dogs concerned were 'out of control' and 'untrained' and 'dangerous'.

But nooooo, working dogs, well they have to have that bit of 'edge' don't they?

Dog bred to hunt ducks … hunts ducks?

Dog bred to retrieve ducks without harming them...isn't trained?

I will always remain entirely unconvinced that having a dog on a lead around cattle is a good idea. Obviously if my dog chased cattle I would, although more likely I'd avoid cattle, but cattle often dislike dogs a lot and like to chase them. My dog can out run them, I cant.

Not chew them up ... harming them is irrelevant. They are either dead already or about to be killed.

…isn’t trained?

Seperate Q leading to endless other Q's. (mainly rhetorical to which I have no answers)
What do well trained dogs eat? Is it just another animal someone killed but maybe less cute?
Should game wardens shoot a cheetah that's running down a gazelle?
Right now I can see a Robin viciously worrying a worm...should I put a stop to it?
In other words lots of animals eat other animals ...
Ducklings to us look cute and fluffy, to a Spaniel I imagine they just smell like dinner.

Should people even be allowed to have pets they don't let live semi-naturally?
Should people feeding cats vegan diets be jailed?
