Ok I cut sugar out of my diet about 1-2 years ago. I also stopped eating pasta.

If I eat jelly babies on a ride it can be hideous afterwards. However I can ride well into hunger if I've had no sugar at all. So I cut out the ride snacks too.

Ive looked at the type2 symptoms- I don't suffer thirst or weight loss. I pee once in the night (drink a pint of water at bedtime) but I do get dehydrated (pee darker during am)- I put this down to drinking lots of espresso then water on catchup that clears the pee but makes me rush to pee for a longtime.

If I eat the odd muffin now, or pudding on its own it can cause me to feel abit lowsy for a while later on.

My question is - the sugar spike? or crash? Is that because I'm pre diabetic or type 2(?) Or because I'm no longer use to daily eating refined/prcossed sugar?

I can eat fruit and bananas when hungry with no issues at all.

I am stressed abit recently - I know this is a diabetic trigger? Again, it only happens if I eat something sugary or pudding - if I ate a muffin etc after a good meal = no problems.

I give blood like clockwork- can this affect things and would it flag up on the test sample?

Hora, you really need to go and discuss this with your GP. No one here can really tell you. The Doc will prob ask a few lifestyle questions and do a few tests (like a fasting Glucose one). I've been Type 2 for about 8 years now (diet controlled) and never had a thirst or urinated much at night. I wasn't even particularly overweight so it came as a shock. I have a twin brother who is Type 1 so its all weird. I'm 44 btw.

Get yourself checked!

Giving blood it won't show up!
Go get a fasting blood test via your docs, I was having symptoms of going low for 7 years before actually developing type 2.
On rides after 2hrs I will normally eat a bar (Cliff bar as I like them and their palatable). I'm on meds and have been for 11 years now and find any carb heavy food, bread, potatoes, rice, root veg, fruit, will significantly raise my levels so have minimal bread, potatoes and rice and pasta once a year. Root veg will be limited by other carbs on the plate.
Full on highs make me sweat and feel sleepy, lows I get tingly lips, shaky hands, confusion, sweats, poor coordination and control on the bike but 99.9% of the time it's fine.
I actually knew I had it full blown after eating tropical fresh fruit salad every night whilst on holiday, drinking a pint of water through dehydration and peeing out two within minutes.....and it got worse during the week.....I knew immediately.

Yep, get yourself checked. I'm pretty certain that they aren't looking for it when you give blood. Your GP will send you for a blood test, you'll get a ton of other stuff like cholesterol checked at the same time, you'll feel much better about yourself. Lovely.

You need a glucose tolerance test.

You could also buy a cheap blood sugar monitor meter, eat a carb heavy meal or drink 500ml of lucozade, wait and an hour, then check your levels. If high then you may have a problem.

Not suggesting you shouldn't see your GP but if your levels are normal then you probably don't have a problem. IANAD.

As both a physician* and a keen observer of your behaviour on this forum, I am uniquely** positioned to give an opinion: MTFU and stop worrying about every little thing. In the olden days, your GP would have slapped you and told you to "Pull yourself together, man!" I don't think they're allowed to do that these days. For shame.

T2DM often has no symptoms, and no one in their right mind would attempt to diagnose it remotely via the internet solely based on extremely vague symptoms that you relate to sugar for some reason. Having said that, I have no idea about your medical history, your cardiovascular risk factors / risk of diabetes etc. You might have diabetes. You might be having a silent heart attack RIGHT NOW. If you're worried about your health, then your GP will be able to sort you out.

**Well, not that unique. There are loads of docs on here.

Wow, that's possibly the most insane medical advice I've heard. So well done. 😆

Collapsed in a corner with a hypo because he couldn't check his blood glucose? 😥

This post is not intended to trivialise glucose control which can be a problem for some diabetic individuals*.
*Bloody GMC guidance on doctors' responsibility on social media. Ruining my internet forum fun since 2013.
