Looking for advice regarding a ferry crossing Dover to Calais next week (I have found good advice about such things here before).
Currently my booking is for driver only but there is a chance I'll be taking a passenger. Can I just rock up at the Dover terminal and pay for the extra passenger? Thanks in advance.
Probably.
But then I found DFDS to be awkward and costly last year, compared to P&O
We did this a few years ago on a trip the other way. They just hopped out of the car before we got to customs, bought a walk on ticket (45 euros return i think) and met us on the ferry. Got a lift back to france with another mate.
Pop her in the boot.
I rang up to book an extra person on, no charge. I think ticket is for car and up to x people and this didn't take us above x
You can amend your ticket online. Shouldn't cost any extra as ticket price is for car + upto 9 passengers.  DFDS don't take foot passengers so don't try ghostly machines idea (would be fine with P&O though). They didn't give us any hassle for Dover - Dunkirk when we had an extra passenger (they were booked on the boat just in a different car though).
Always strange when you hear of someone having a completely different experience to you with the same company. In contrast to Matt Out and about I've always found DFDS to be cheap and flexible.
DFDS don’t take foot passengers
Yeah, that'll make a mess of any plans. It was 7 or 8 years ago though. Maybe more.
Thanks all. Ended up just being me, but I did miss my ferry by 30mins after my radiator / coolant hose decided to part ways just as I set off. Very relaxed booth operator put me on the next one and didn't bat an eyelid at my van going on as a car.
