Apropos of absolutely nothing, what's your Desert Island Roast Dinner? The rules are:

1 x Meat (sorry veggies, this ain't your thread)
1 x Potato dish
2 x Veg
1 x wildcard accompaniment (like a yorkshire pud, or another type of potato or veg)
1 x condiment
Your choice and quantity of gravy (from light jus to crude oil in colour and consistency)
Your choice of beverage

I'll start:

Lamb
Roast spuds
Mashed swede, red cabbage
Roast Parsnips
Mint sauce
A bit of light gravy
A pint of Habit from the Flying Monk brewery.

There's always one, and it's always you...

There's always at least two, and it's usually me and Binners.

Having said that, let's evaluate my choice against your stated criteria and test my response for validity shall we?

Roast? - Check - A Tandoor is an oven is it not?
Meat? - Check - Chicken is meat
Potato Dish? - Chips are made of spuds.
2 types of Veg - Onion Rings and Veg pakora
Wildcard accompaniment - This is the very essence of Munchy Box.
Sauce / Gravy - "Chili sauce my friend?"

Refreshing beverage - Bru is an integral part of my cultural heritage.

I'd also wager that my calorie laden effort would sustain me on this fictional island long after you've eaten your own foot.

Well, when you put it like that I can only apologise for my initial sceptism. Maybe we should exchange a roast potato for a veg pakora, and in that way make our own tiny metaphorical dent in the cultural barricade that so sadly exists between us.

Rib of beef - medium rare
Roasties skins on, well seasoned with rosemary salt and pepper done in light olive oil and a knob of lard (any other form of potato invalidates it as a roast dinner)
Honey and black pepper parsnips
Buttered carrots and kale (counts as one)
Yorkshire pudding
Horseradish
A lot of gravy, black as midnight black as pitch, blacker than the foulest witch, glossy but not thick, sharpened and sweetened with balsamic vinegar (cooked out)
Pint of Landlord.

1 x Meat - 1.5" thick cross cut veal shin
1 x Potato dish - difficult, not keen on taters
2 x Veg - onion, carrot, celery...
1 x wildcard accompaniment - gremolata
1 x condiment - see wildcard
Your choice and quantity of gravy - part of the dish I'm afraid
Your choice of beverage - bottle of Casa Belfi Col Fondo Prosecco to start with followed by a bottle of Abbazia di Novacella-Kloster Neustift Praepositus Lagrein Riserva Sudtiroler.

Lots of love for beef I see. Something I can never really understand, cos it doesn't really taste of anything, it just tastes like 'meat'.

I assumed you meant Veg dish, as you'd put potato dish in the category above.

😛

Yeah, and chicken - just tastes of rat, frog, and everything that isn't proper meat really.

Yep ... mum and the Mrs who HAD to learn it, (and now begrudgingly likes it) transfer into a pyrex bowl for the roasting.

90% of beef is like that, you need to find the good well-hung stuff.

You've forgotten to mention the most important part of a roast dinner:
The pudding.
Not Yorkshire pud but the sweet, fruit, chocolate, cake type, meringue or maybe even cheese.

Yeah, maybe. But the best 10% of beef will not be as tasty as 90% of lamb. Lamb is da roastyshizzle, fo sho.

Can I have a time machine first? I've not really enjoyed a roast dinner since my Gran's back in the early 80s. So if I can go back to then, I'll have Grannie's -
Roast beef, yorkshires, roast spuds, swede, peas n carrots.
If not I'll go for the curry, ta.

Uncultured swines having yorkshire puddings alongside your main. Should be for starters with lashings of proper gravy.

FYI anyone who refers to them as 'puffs' as I've sometimes heard north of the border, will be first against the wall come the revolution. I've just re-read that sentence and would stress it all relates to Yorkshire puddings!

This is going to be a mix of things I might not normally put together since I want to include my favourites.

Rib of beef, medium rare
Pommes Dauph
Savoy cabbage and white asparagus
Yorkshire pud
Horseradish
Light gravy and has to be the produce of the roasting tray, wine and veg water. None of your granules.
Juan Gil 18 Meses

i am pleased to see that everyone who has chosen beef has also added youskhire puddings.

It takes a particularly deprived type of pervert to not have have Yorkshire puds with their beef.

Sorry, but as much as a good apple pie is a lovely thing, an apple crumble is on a whole new level of loveliness. You could even throw in some seasonal berries as well. Oh, and fresh cream to go with.

Chicken
Roasts
Carrots and cabbage
Some other roasted root veg
Gravy made the boring old roux in the pan style. Glossy, dark, double cream consistency. A jus doesn't cut it.
Red wine (get lost with your white with chicken lies)

Crumble and custard

Well if we're adding afters, I'll go Bread and Butter pud. A good one though, none of your stale bread and burnt raisins nonsense.

Rib of beef, rare
Roasties
Mash (actual spuds)
Pass, don’t eat any other “roast dinner” veg
Horseradish
Yorkies
Gravy - thick and dark
Sparkling Shiraz- it’s my secret shame which I rarely indulge but if there’s nobody else on the island then it’s game on!

Chocolate tart, vanilla ice cream.
