Just (2wk ago) had a root canal done by an endodontist
It's a premolar, which is the tooth behind the canine tooth. So quite forward in the mouth + visible
Due to visit dentist next week to look @ tooth radiograph and discuss options. Which are: Inlay or Crown
Anyone have experiences of either?
Cost is of course a factor I'd rather save a few hundred quid and get a crown but by the sounds of it, inlay is much less invasive (they cut away much less of the tooth) so is definitely preferable in the long term respect. Or can, through experience, people say otherwise?!
I broke my inlays after 3 days whislt drinking a bottle of beer.
A mate gave me a slap on the back and then shit himself when I started spitting what he thought were bits of my teeth out.
The replacement crowns have last 24 years so far.
Preserving as much real tooth as possible is the best thing, but once you get past a certain point a crown makes more sense.
IANAD, but I do have a significant amount of porcelain in my mouth.
I've had two inlays done (in Portugal) a few weeks back and so far so good, 55 euros in total.
Everyone I know who has crowns have had them for decades with no issues. Not sure what the problem is with crowns? I guess jimbubleyou has a point but depending on how old you are the crown will probably last you as long as you need it to so a bit academic really.
Not had an inlay, but had a gold crown for 20 years now on one of my molars, been fine.
For background my teeth are royaly crap. Brush twice a day, floss and use mouth wash. Dentist thought I was troughing down lion bars 24/7 based on my teeth.
Went for gold crown as apparently I have a strong bite and it's malleable, rather than porcelain which could crack. Plus I'm so gangsta 🙅
Preserving the tooth (or as much as possible) will always be the Dentists default stance. Veeners do this.
Personally, I would go with a veneer. It's cheaper and presvers more of the tooth.
A crown can come later, if needed.
Thanks. I'm late 20's
Veneer looks interesting I will ask her about this
I’ve done the whole roadmap since an otb when I was 13.
Styled it out with half a tooth for a few years, until the root got infected. Then had the roots removed in both from teeth.
Little while later had multiple sets of veneers that last a couple of years each.
Then on to root crowns that were tougher but suffered from natural gum shrinkage exposing the remaining tooth root.
Then in November ‘19 my gum was inflamed and the dentist, and some X-rays, identified infected roots again and the remainder needed to come out and also have bone graft as the infection had also chomped it’s way through a portion of my jaw and implants were installed.
Thanks to Things last year this has taken a while to resolve and should have the final teeth screwed in in two weeks.
Just so you know.
Ohhh, similar to Peter but not had the second set of infections (I forgot to wheelie up a curb).
I spent a large portion of my teens with metal teeth like your man, jaws out of the James bond films.
