I was just watching Pitch Invasion on iPlayer last night and wondered how the Lawman was. What a player.
As a well behaved schoolboy in Edinburgh in the late 80’s I was chosen from my class to spend the day at the Hibs ground with boys from all the other schools in the city (much to the indignation of the normal boys in my class that actually liked football)
we got to go on the pitch and sit in the boardroom and listen to some players talk pish - it was an exceptionally tedious afternoon. They did however give us goodie-bags which included one of those 1/4 sized footballs.
later I got to shake hands with a man who I thought might be Rod Stewart (everyone certainly seemed to know who he was) and he insisted on scribbling his name on my brand new football
that ball ended up stuck on the roof of the school toilets less than 24 hours later
Petrieboy was it the big nose, cockney accent, tight lycra wearing Celtic fan who shook your hand or Dennis himself?
You must have led a quiet teenage life if you weren't sure about Rod, didn't you watch Kenny Everett back in the day?
Scored 2 goals to beat Watford in a 1969 FA Cup replay which remains Watford’s record crowd. My first ever football match. Have vivid memories of the atmosphere, sat in the straw around the greyhound track after the crowd barriers collapsed, but no recollection of the goals.
