Very sad. An amazingly talented lady, and a troubled soul.

I must apologize i was taken aback, wee bit of a shock, hadn't ever tried to spell her name before a bit like whiskey or whisky

Crikey. I lived in Cork in 1994 and listened to the Cranberries lots. Oddly for the first time in years I randomly was singing one of their songs yesterday. Sad loss of talent and almost the same age as me....eek!

Just seen it pop up on Sky News, apparently she was in London for a recording session. Very sad at such a young age. 😐

This is one of those times when a singer’s death makes me a bit sad.

I grew up in Limerick, where the band is from. I went to primary school with the drummer, Fergal Lawler - we were in the same year, but different classes - so weren’t mates. Though my mum and his knew one another well as they were both teachers. I can remember the early days when they were the Cranberry Saw Us - they used to play gigs in our uni bar and to be honest, weren’t much cop. Then some Svengali got hold of them and put Delores in as the lead singer and (I think) got them a tour supporting Suede in the US. Next thing we knew, they’d cracked it. Linger was a big hit both sides of the Atlantic and is probably still one of my favourite “indie” love songs. Suddenly they were massive! I think most people in Limerick were proud of them.

They must have made an absolute packet from Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? and Delores built herself a massive eff-off house by the coast which, of course, went down well. 🙂 I think she got more involved in the writing of subsequent albums and I thought they were poor. Her voice was instrument enough.

But yeah, 46 is no age - the whole band is more or less the same age as me and they (apart from Delores herself) were contemporaries of mine in a fairly small city where you tended to know plenty of people your own age.

I’ll forgive a lot of the average stuff they came out with because Everybody... holds many memories for me and my mates.

Very sad and shocked to hear this and Cyrille Regis too, both far too young.

😥

She was very much prominent at the start of me listening to music that I actually wanted to listen to rather than what parents/school friends listened to.

😥

I was just told that she died. I can't believe it! I loved Everybody Else is Doing It, but also songs like Zombie. A bit past my really "into the music" phase, but her voice totally hooked me.

May she rest in peace. 🙁

This is a bit of a shock, the Cranberries were one of my Uni playlist songs with Deleores and her unique voice.

Never really got round to listening to much of their music other than their main hits 😳 Shame as I love her distinctive voice.

Always reminds me of some messy nights in the town pub, one of my mates used to always absolutely murder Zombie every time karaoke was on. He was properly bad 😆

Shocked at this. Can remember listening to them back in the day, an amazing voice. Listening to 'everybody else...' still takes me back to some of those days. Rip dolores

She's one of those rock women that I've always adored. Some of their songs really stir the soul. Properly shed a tear a wee while ago when i heard this.

She'll join Bowie, Jacko, Prince as proper "moments" whenever i hear their songs in future.

I think she's left a few kids motherless. Unimaginable.

Shocked to hear, like others have said, no age at all.

Linger was too saccharine sounding for me, but her letting rip on Zombie and on Promises gave me shivers. RIP Dolores.

Well, shit.

I've ignored this thread all day because I didn't know her name. Just realised now thanks to a Facebook post.

What a shame. RIP.

I saw them live a couple of times. She had a great voice and a way of captivating an entire crowd.

Sad news.

Far too young to die. When my Dad was debuting hi fi systems we used No Need to Argue as a base disc. He went a little while ago and I inherited the hi fi which I helped pick. Seems fitting to play the album on it again.

just saw this on the news, RIP 🙁

One of my favourite bands and voices having grown up with them on MTV back in the 90's. Will have to dig out "no need to argue" off the CD rack and put it on in the car.

Remember I played Zombie a million times and singing at the top of my voice after I broke up with my first serious girlfriend.
A defining song for me.
RIP

Very sad, love the cranberries.Me and the Mrs had tickets to see them in about 1995 ish and we were gutted when they cancelled the Tour!
Finally got to see them live last May at the London Palladium which was great but you could tell something wasn't right with Delores, back problems i think. The following day they cancelled the rest of the world tour i believe.
Rest In Peace.
