Having had a Meaco DD8L one for 7 years now to use in the shed, am now looking for another Dehumifier to use in the house (3 bed) and seen there are a bewildering number around these days.

Should I stick with what we have or anything else that's good?

Cheers

I've recently got an Ecoair DD1, it gets good reviews and is working very well

We have had an Ebac 2650e for a few years now. No complaints beyond, if being picky, the wheels being extra cost.

This one anyway…

Seems price has increased by £40 too since we purchased.

We've had an Ebac in our drying room for the past 10 years which has been faultless.

We got an Electriq one a year or so ago.
I spent ages going round & round in circles trying to work out what was the best one.

In the end I just went for the one that seemed to have the right mix of features, fitted the budget and didn't look too industrial.

We have 2 of the Ebac ones mentioned above; they've been faultless for several years, the only problem being that when you use the optional wheels it's very hard to find a bit of floor flat enough to stop it from vibrating. One of ours mostly lives in the airing cupboard for drying clothes which it does so well we've ditched the tumble dryer.

We have two Von Haus dehumidifiers - the bigger 20l one and a smaller one. Digital display, timer if needed, fairly quiet and have the option of a drain pipe.

The 20l is in the conservatory for drying clothes, the smaller one we had for MIL's house whilst decorating, but we use it at the caravan for drying wet suits. Both are neat, and the 12l is pretty small

I also have an old dehumidifier in the garage, but the humididty is stuck on 60 as the buttons are broken - that's OK though as it's not for drying.

OP - what are you using it for ?

Would a positive pressure ventilation system be a better solution?

I have EcoAir and Meaco ones.

Both good. I'd probably buy Meaco again if they both got stolen or something.

That sounds expensive, whatever it is?

Recently bought a Meaco Arete One 12L Dehumidifier & Air Purifier.

Wanted something low energy use, and this seemed to fit the bill.

I have a Meaco 20l low energy jobby. I wouldn't recommend it, 1. It rattles half the time, 2. It doesn't remember it's settings, so you can't put it on a smart plug.

Decided to go for the 12L Meaco MeacoDry ABC. Anyone know whether it's worth setting two up in a largeish 3 bed semi? The house isn't breathing amazingly well atm and we're in a wet part of the country. Thinking one up and one down.

Depends if you keep your internal doors open or not. We have a 3 bedroom Victorian semi with high ceilings and ours lives on the landing upstairs. Seems to do a decent job across the whole house.

I'd say buy one, see how it goes then get a second if you feel the need.

Thanks jeffl, will start with one unit on landing. What's the best technique do you think, keeping windows slightly cracked to promote airflow or does this encourage more moisture from outside?

I just move mine up and downstairs now and then.

I only have two because the EcoAir was away for warranty and I needed one urgently when selling a house.

I’ve just bought my first dehumidifier a Meaco Dry Arete One 25 Litre.

It’s a bit of an experiment.

It’s had its first outing today.

Been on since morning and whilst it is bringing down the humidity 68 >> 60 it’s taking forever and collecting very little in the way of water. Outside humidity is 95

It’s centrally located downstairs. All windows and doors are shut.

Am I just being impatient?

Ours will fill up overnight if drying clothing, but have you checked the 'desired' humidity on the settings - if it's at 60, it won't gather more water when it reaches 60 unless humidity rises again.

@kingofhtefr

If it's for general house moisture levels I'd look at at the positive pressure ventilation as that's what it's designed for. I haven't got one but since realising our 12L dehumidifier costs about 12p an hour to run, and might be on for 24 hours to dry a large rack of washing in the winter, that adds up, and also ours is a bit noisy and doesn't make the room particularly comfortable to work in as it warms the room slightly.

Thank you. I'll definitely look at the positive pressure systems before we start renovating the house. Parts of the house are still wet from historic roof and bathroom leaks and the central heating system is inadequate. Once the house is drier we'll use the dehumidifier for laundry in the conservatory to save using the tumble drier in the winter.

Ended up buying a Meaco 12L low Energy one this time around.
I 'bought into' the HEPA filter thing.
Anyone else got one of these?
It does run quieter than the DD8L but it seems to take longer to bring the humidity down.

I have the Meaco Arete One 12L, is that the one you've got? I can't judge the speed as it's the first proper dehumidifier we've had, but it's been doing a great job of drying the washing much quicker than without (drying on racks in the bathroom, with door and window shut). That's using laundry mode.

Not drying washing, it gets put on the smart mode, target set to 50%. I've noticed if we put in a room with door shut it does the job, but when we've had it out in the hallway and internal doors open, it understandably lowers the humidity much slower.

Main thing for us is using it when drying washing, and in the kitchen/dining room after cooking.

I've had a few
Ebac 2650e
Meaco 20L low energy
Meaco Zambezi (desiccant)

The Zambezi was fantastic at drawing moisture but very energy hungry. The other two pretty good at taking moisture and used much less electricity. Reading geforcejunky neg about the meaco 20L low energy isn't my experience re rattle or losing settings when unplugged, but I only had fan speed and humidity set, not timer. I haven't noticed it resetting to a default fan speed or humidity setting when unplugged briefly but haven't had it operating off/on on a longer timer plug yet.
I also got the impression that the instructions say you shouldn't use them on a separate off/on timer plug anyhow.
