We have a Delonghi dehumidifier which has suddenly stopped collecting water. The humidity gauge seems to be reporting correctly, as I placed it in the bathroom after a hot shower, and the gauge went from 44 to 72 so that would indicate that is working ok. I took the cover off the unit and switched it on, but although the main fan is working and drawing air across the coils all that seems to happen is that the refrigeration unit is getting very hot, and the coils are not getting cold.

I am a fan of repairing stuff rather than binning and buying a new unit, so any tips as to how I go about diagnoising what the problem is would be great.

If the compressor's running and the chiller isn't getting cold, it suggests a loss of gas. If you have a refrigeration repairer near it may be worth re-gassing (and leak-testing).
