Was riding home from Canary Wharf last night, along the Regents Canal next to Victoria Park, when I spotted a bright pair of eyes in the water (reflecting my helmet light), thought it was a dog or something in trouble so stopped to see if I could help it out, much to my suprise it was a blingin Muntjac Deer!?
Have never seen on in Victoria Park in 6 years, is there a population in there? Was really suprised to see the little fella! It was pretty scared of the bright light from my Ay-ups and swam to the other side of the canal, where it eventually found a shallow bank it could clamber out on to (someone's backyard!), hope it was OK, though can't see how it'd go on the streets of Dalston/Bethnal Green!
Anyone else seen or heard of deer this central in London town? 😕
I've seen one at the very southern tip of Epping Forest, about 50m from the first house. Wonder if he's wandered down that way.
Actually, they have a deer enclosure in the park itself. Wonder if he's managed to get out?
Don't think they have Muntjac in the enclosure, only red deer from what I remember? Fair hike from Epping Forrest as well isn't it?
It seems likely, they're shy an kind of elusive deer..You'd normally hear them before seeing them.
Maybe it has escaped from Bushey park to avoid being culled!
Where's Bushey Park? Sharki, I saw that link to wildlondon, but it looks like all the sightings on there are on the edge of London, rather than central? How'd the little bugger get to Victoria Park I wonder?? 😕
