my houses owner appears to have been a complete numpty. overhauling the hallway and have removed several meters of redundant telephone cable tacked along picture rails, sides of doors and skirting.
it appears in an attempt to smooth it they used silicone sealant over these wires and it is a nightmare to remove. normally I would have just sanded back but I can't. I'm tempted to try caulk over the top rather than get a perfect base.
Any other ideas
Will it not scrape off with a scraper or razor blade
Yep that's what I'm doing it's taking me ages....was hoping for a shortcut!
Try a carbide scraper, caulking will not stick to silicon, not much will.

That's a 50mm blade, you can get smaller and profile blades too, Harris and Bahco both do profile scraper, the Bahco handle is better but the Harris blades fit and are much cheaper. Spare blades are cheapest on ebay.
cheers for the tip will take a look
Yeah, don’t caulk over silicone. Either remove it, however time consuming or replace the affected woodwork.
