Hi all,
I’d appreciate any recommendations for a decent waterproof, probably hard shell(?) jacket as my current Mountain Equipment one is it’s way out after much abuse.
Needs to be reasonably robust (not prone to tearing when brushing past rocks etc..), but still fairly light. It’ll be used for walking in British 3 season conditions mainly, plus work when raining. I’ve used Mountain Equipment, Rab and, a long time ago, Berghaus. The former brands I’d definitely buy again.
Budget is £250-ish.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Do I have to bump my post?
ME kit is still top notch. Go find one within your budget
I've an ME kongur I've had for a few years and I'd buy again if needed. It's good quality kit but not the cheapest
Montane alpine pro goretex jacket.. kept me dry through some torrential weather this winter. I was lucky enough to pick it up on eBay for £120
Have a look at Jottnar, those guys bring in lots of hostile environment experience from their Army days, and they seem to hit many of the right points. I’ve not got any of their really foul weather kits, but even their lightweight down jacket survived an afternoon in some pretty heavy rain that I wasn’t really expecting without wetting through.
Have a look on sportpursuit, they always have lots of well reduced waterproofs, easy enough to order a few and send back what you don't want.
Can you get to a Go Outdoors or similar and try a load?
Some decent buys on Sportspursuit:

Cheers.
That Jottnar kit looks excellent, but possibly a shade over my budget (unless there’s a sale/discount code to exploit).
Discounted stuff on Sportspursuit looks very promising. Will have a peruse.
Agree about the quality of ME garments. Mine have been great.
