I need a decent quality, decent fitting very bright dress shirt for an upcoming event and everything I can find is either normal muted colours or is a £5.99 eBay special. Ideally in a nice bright, lime green.

Not something I'd normally wear so no idea where to find such a thing outside of the 1990s.

Any thoughts on where to look?

A standard white shirt and some clothing dye - tie dye effect optional...

Do you man one of those that's white on the front and with some 'Colin from the Fast Show' pattern on the back? What's the event? If it's a one-off, why not go for the eBay special, most shirts will look fairly decent for one wear with a decent iron beforehand.

Normally I’d suggest Duchamp but looks like they’ve really cut back their shirt range. Have a look at Hackett

Brands i buy local to me are Guide London and Giordano who both do some very jazzy patterns and designs. Quality of both is very good. Taste is very personal of course.

No, just a plain bold colour in decent material that doesn't fit like a sac.

What’s the event?

Funeral for a young person. Family don't want a black / dull turnout. Some colours more relevant than others as they meant something. Not something I'd chose to wear every day but don't want it to look shit either.

Ah, I see, sorry to hear that. By dress shirt I thought you meant a black-tie one, I think you mean a 'normal' suit shirt? If that's the case, I'd have thought it would be fairly easy to find a pink shirt, if that's appropriate, as that's a fairly common colour. Personally I don't think you can fault M&S, they have slimmer fits available.

Given the circumstances and your desire to have a specific colour, I'd definitely just buy some dye and dye a white shirt you already own on it's last legs. You know it fits, it'll be the exact colour you want and just buy yourself a new shirt to replace it which you'll wear again. Easy to do.

I don't want to go on about my genius idea again, but surely a STW from the 90s has something for you that you can pick up en route?

If not, how about:

Charles Tyrwhitt

House of Fraser 1

House of Fraser 2 (although it looks like they just took a photo of a Homebase employee and then stole his shirt)

BOSS

Good luck!

Do image Search on Google for Oxford shirt - then filter by colour.
There's then loads of options, from John Lewis to Cotton Traders
