Owt else to consider?
Done the cheap and nasty Tesco/Asda specials, so looking for something which will last.

Cobb - lots more cash though the flexibility of how you can use it more than makes up for it for me. Done bread on mine plus steaming veggies and baked spuds and roasted chickens and the usual bbq fair.

Cadac safari chef.

We have one and its excellent and very compact if you run it from small gas canisters

I love our Smokey Joe, even if it does just end up being used at home...

Harder to do proper BBQ, but that's true of all all small BBQs.

We have a Weber, I think it's a Smokey Joe too, the little one, just over a foot high, yes?
It is actually brilliant. The most even cooking of any BBQ I've ever used. I'd recommend it, 100% 🙂

I would recommend a note book type thing. A few friends have had them and for the convenience of fold size can't recommend enough. Deep enough that doesn't burn everything to a black unrecognizable mess.

Bought one of these Grilltech Notebook Portable BBQ's for camping - very impressed, maybe a bit smaller than I'd like but good BBQ and fire pit afterwards.

Cobb BBQs are great - we use ours loads on camping trips. As already said - a fair bit more cash though.

I've got a Weber Go Anywhere. Similar to a Smokey Joe, except it's rectangular than than round. Fits in the boot of the car or under the seats in the van a little better. I think it's discontinued now I think.

Can't recommend it enough. Built to last.

Another Cobb here - does brilliant smoked chicken, plus the moat not only helps keep stuff like chicken from drying out, you can add lemon juice or wine to it to flavour the steam and give that bit more taste.
Pricey though

Smokey Joe here - got it as a wedding present 12 years ago and it's still going strong. Assume the Weber Go anywhere will be the same quality? Is it just a grate or is there more to it?

Son of hibachi, grilleto. Love it!! Father in law bought one too but didn't quite get the snuff out pouch bit right! Fire 😯

It is(was) a rectangular portable bbq. I think that it has been discontinued. I wanted to buy one last year but couldn't find it anywhere.

Weber Q

Proper BBQ with cast iron grill.
Stand is an option, Lid makes for great cooking, can roast in it.
Will do Toast in the mornings and good bacon (and eggs if you get the plate too)
Also is Gas so is actually portable without making a huge mess.
Left our first one in the UK with my parents and now in the second over here in Oz.

Perfect control for cooking and non of that smoked to death taste and undercooked food on a limp fire.

(Gas bottle takes up as much room as a messy charcoal bag)

Oooh something else I didn't know I needed until now. 😕 🙂

That Weber Q thing isn't a BBQ, and doesn't look remotely portable though. You should be ashamed of yourself for suggesting a gas cooker! 🙂

It is portable, the stand folds flat and the outer tables fold in.

It is a BBQ - Living in the land of the BBQ very few bother with the british version of death by smoke and food poisoning 🙂 May just throw something on it for lunch.

Gas works really really really well. As I've said before if you are relying on charcoal smoke to flavour your food you've started in the wrong place.

We have taken out Webber everywhere races/weekends away etc. The fact you can you pop it on in the morning for a quick bit of breakfast makes it very versatile.

I'm sure it's good for what it is - but it's not a barbecue!

I know, I've got it in my kitchen. When I want to cook something on a barbecue though, I'll use a barbecue.

Just like the gas hob in my kitchen then (or the portable version I use for camping). Nothing like a barbecue though.

🙂

I'll just leave you all to spill ash when you move the damm thing!!

The Weber Q idea is great though. We used to use it to cook anything that would smoke out the kitchen. Used it all year round as it's ready in minutes.

Another very happy Weber Go Anywhere user here; mine has seen regular service over the last 5 years or so, is easy to get lit and will cook a huge quantity of food using just a single 1kg bag of charcoal. Packs away very neatly too.

Another vote for the Cobb here.

We did a whole leg of lamb in ours last weekend with a jar of mint sauce poured on top. We did have to chop a half inch of bone off using a selection of camping tools/pocketknifes though.

Our friend has bought the Wok add on and was enjoining Mussels from his campsite last week 🙂

We've also been served up roast chicken and the trimmings in the middle of the night at twentyfour12!

One nice thing about it is you can use their fuel and it is ready to cook on in a couple of minutes, no waiting for the charcoal to go grey if you are in a hurry.

Its definitely portable, you can carry it around mid cooking with bare hands, use it on a picnic bench, but definitely not inside like the retailer I bought it from claimed. The only downside is it doesn't fold away so it can be a bit bulky to store, particularly in a campervan/caravan.

Would love a Cobb, but they are a bit bulky, and expensive, the Grilletto/Son of Hibachi is an awesome thing though, all their claims of quick lighting and the snuff pouch would appear to be totally true! Had one for about 3 years and gave one to a mate for a birthday and his is still going strong.
Once it dies (which their is no sign of whatsoever but everything dies eventually) it will be replaced like for like.
Excuse the cheesy advert 🙂

Depends how portable you need it to be.

I have a Weber Q and a Cobb.

The Weber is kind of portable but only in a "carry it from the car to the side of the tent" way

The Cobb I would happily carry a couple of miles to a beach. You don't need much fuel with a Cobb either

Both brilliant though
