A strange request and yet the history of the STW hive mind suggest not a unsolvable one! Meeting my dad between where they live (Chesterfield) and where we live (Ross on Wye). Half way appears to be around Brum airport of a bit further north. Any nice towns/villages around there for a family lunch before I hit trip advisor?

Thanks Hatter, that looks a lovely place... and my eldest can have Pizza since nothing else on the menu would probably be acceptable for a recalcitrant teenager 😉

I was going to suggest exactly the same as hatter.
Other ideas are:
The Orange Tree which is in a similar area to the above.
The Ewe and Lamb which is a bit further down the motorway
Or the Wildmoor Oak whoch is again in a similar area.

It's a gorgious building as well, well worth having a look around whilst you're there, sadly I can't see the achingly bucolic riverside outdoor seating being much use in mid-January.

This is my local, recently changed hands so some of the reviews are of old owners. Its a nice cosy place.
Orange Tree is nice too. Will have to visit Saxon Mill

Thanks all. Due to logistics / booking issues we've gone with the Orange Tree.

Orange Tree was great. Lovely place, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and really good food. Not a bad pint either.. cheers for the recommendation. We'll try the saxon mill next time...

Orange tree is good but IMO the Malt Shovel at Barston is better and closer. Really very good gastro pub.
