Is there such a thing that comes without malware and dodgy links?

What kind of flight sim are you talking, civilian or military?

Also, what's the spec of your machine? Most of them are pretty hardware intensive, and do you have a joystick?

Digital Combat Simulator, you get the Su25T and a P-51 trainer (i.e. no guns) for free.

Included maps are Caucasus and Marianas Islands.

You can install it from Steam, or as Standalone from the Eagle Dynamics website. If you do stand alone you can free trial most of the available modules for 2 weeks (i think).

The Su25T is what they call a low fidelity module, so you have to memorise keyboard or joystick buttons to do stuff like raise the gear and flaps. The P51 is a full fidelity module, which means you can click >90% of the buttons, switches and dials in the cockpit.

The only caveat is it's a bit of resource hog, so check your system vs their minimum specs.

My question would be, in classic STW style, why are you still using Windows 7?
The operating system is over two years out of support and they (still as far as I know) give you a free upgrade to Windows 10.
On the upside, then (with win10) you could definitely get a working free flight simulator

No joystick

Laptop (personal) is 2010 but still decent spec with 8 gb RAM and 250 gb SSD.

No fancy graphics card though.

Win7 as it's just a spare.

Thanks so far.

Lack of fancy graphics may kill off your aim as most sims seem to like the power in modern cards. DCS wants a GTX1070 as a minimum. Is Xplane still around?

Also, Win7... Please upgrade. It's really not supported any more and using it does leave any data on it more exposed to netscrotes than it really deserves to be.

No graphics card and no joystick means you're really looking at abandonware, as most modern stuff won't run.

You might be able to run something like war thunder, but that is really a competitive online shootemup and it's grindy/toxic as hell.

Also, upgrade to Windows 10.

Hmm, yeah a 3080 struggles with DCS, so a non-discrete GPU isn't gonna cut it.

Maybe an old copy of MSFS 98 on ebay?

Win7 as it’s just a spare.

Just get it upgraded, with 8Gb and SSD, it'll work fine with Win 10 and be supported.

run an Atari simulation of combat, its better than a flight sim 😉

atari combat

but if you want to play get a gaming PC an the MSflightsim, its really quite good.

Win7 as it’s just a spare.

It's a liability. Get it on W10 or throw it out.
