Is it worth looking further than the Big Agnes Copper Spur or MSR Hubba Hubba?

Have an old three man Blacks tent that we used the other night. It's good, but a bit big in pack size, footprint and overall size when staked out.

Want something that'll comfortably sleep two, ideally has two openings, isn't a lairy colour and comes in at 1,5kg or less.

Will be used for walks into the mountains and occasional nights along the river, hence the not lairy colour.

The Big Agnes has the neat advantage that it'll fix easily to a bike.

Anything else I should consider?

I got a Vango Blade 200 which I'm quite happy carrying just for me, and an OEX Bandicoot which is a bit bulkier but sleeps 2 just fine.

Tents have got a bit like bikes in that the amount you pay doesn't really impact on the actual experience you have.

1.5kg is very light, particularly with two openings.

What's the budget?

I'm saving for a F10 Xenon, but it's 1.8kg and one opening.
Alpkit Ordos the same, Sanny reviewed one and rated it.

You can buy 4 Vango Blades for that, but it is about a can of beer lighter.

I've had the Hubba Hubba for a few years. It's light enough for me to use as a solo tent and works fine as a 2-man (although might feel crowded with 2 big folks in there). The headspace design and double opening make good use of the small footprint, and it's more or less freestanding if the ground is tough to peg.

The only downsides are that it pitches inner-first and that it's a bit more directionally sensitive than some other tents to really strong wind. It'll probably stay up, but in some directions you get a lot of fly/inner touching in strong winds - fixable by rotating the tent, but a PITA if it's 3am.

Trekkertent drift. I have a custom build one that is massive. Three person outer and two person inner. Uses trekking poles or you can get CF ones from barebones

It's the lightest big two person tent with extended porch I could get. Two openings as well

It has it's own compromises of course

very interested in this thread...

whats the verdict on the Naturehike Cloudup2 as this is seems to fit the brief above for a fraction of the cost? Any other decent alternatives? Naturehike Mongar at slightly more weight?

If you can live with the blatant IP theft the Naturehike Star River 2 is very very good. I have an actual MSR Hubba NX one man and the Naturehike ripoff is at least as good and a fraction of the price.

I think you can get a porch extension that the bike could go in also.

this is my trekkertent drift custom £300 ish iirc 2.8m x 3m (Inner 2.4m x 1.2m) 1.2kg without poles - you can get two poles for it for another couple of hundred grammes from bearbones. Made in scotland so supposedly up to scottish conditions

I have a cloud up 2 - very happy with the value for money. I don't have any super fancy tents but it's worked well for me.

Wish I'd gone with the mongar as I'm now convinced the end-on entry isn't the best for me and my aching bones.

Just seen that star river - that looks good too.

Edit: all of them weigh over 1.5kg & under 2kg.

I just bought one of these, Nordisk Halland 2 LW
https://www.outdoorgear.co.uk/Nordisk-Halland-2-LW-Tent-sku51155501.asp?gclid=CjwKCAjwmf_4BRABEiwAGhDfSVhRybJ8G6ogCqrr2ZoN2y8qbvoQrv_7VTG6BDLM5jxkeeS0ysXmkxoCIl4QAvD_BwE

Although it only has one entry it is a decent spacious porch and the sleeping area is plenty big enough for 2 adults. It weighs 1.5 kg. I think its great.

@tjagain - how low are the sloping walls of that? Everyone I see a design like that I can't help but think a small vertical wall at the bottom with triangulated peg point would transform inside space and fly/inner separation. See Six Moons Lunar (but make it two-layer) and perhaps even the corner of a Tarptent Stratospire.

Which reminds me, a Scarp would fit the bill for OP as well. I think scotroutes has one.

Matt - the inner has a small vertical wall but yes there is a lot of wasted space at the edges. Like all tents a compromise and the simple shape means its lighter and easier to make and put up. and also sloping right to the ground makes it more wind resistant Its got far more internal space ( including usable space)tho than my other two people tents because its overall footprint is huge - 2.8 m x 3m. ~the side guys increase the height at the head and foot end - you sleep across it not along it and I have now got a couple of short CF poles to make the pull on the side guy more upwards to increase this. Inner / outer separation is very good - loads of space

ONe of its main disadvantages is that you do need a bigger pitch than many 2 person tents. One of its big advantages is you can put the outer up in less than a minute and then get two of you with all your kit inside it and still have enough room to put the inner up.

This is the inner I have for it ( you can also get a full mesh inner)

and the middle of each sloping side attaches to the outer then is pulled u and out by the side guy making it even more roomy

I can get under the outer and zip it up without getting into the inner which is brilliant in wet weather for getting your waterproofs off and with the two porches one can contain all your kit leaving the other free. You can also tie back both sides og the entrance leaving you with an overhang so rain still does not get on the inner and both of you can sit side by side looking out

I suspect it will be flappy in high winds

Like all tents a compromise but for us the light weight combined with the space and the big doorways works. We intend to walk 300miles wild camping next year ( stirling to cape Wrath)

My Terra Nova Zephyros 2 lite nearly matches all requirements other than weight (1.75kg).
They are under £200
