Fine on my android phone.

I don't get foreign characters but I do get typing lag.

Seems worse on stw than other sites but that could just be that I type more on here than others?

I do get an initial typing lag on the site (and on some others).
Maybe a second or two. But I just keep typing and it catches up.

Solo, yes but iPhones account for almost 10% of visits so I'm happy to spend some time ensuring support.

Working fine when I send in a letter although it means that someone at ST Towers has to then transfer it on to the thread and by the time it appears it's usually a couple of days too late and the thread is dead and buried...

I have upgraded to the jPhone because the number got so big they had to move on to the next letter instead.

I don't understand. How do all these people have iPhones (jPhones!?!?!), that are not even released yet? I just rang Carphone Warehouse, and they said the latest one they had was the 4S.....not even heard of the jPhone, which I assume must be for the Japanese market?

Without the tools to benchmark iPhone performance on all of a users background apps I can't be sure that one of their apps isn't using RAM.

If you take what Apple says as gospel how do you explane how Safari freezes on my iPad and can only be force quit via the Multitasking bar. Surely the system is supposed to handle the freeze and quit Safari for me?

Quitting apps and restarting the device appears to me to solve many app performance issues - would be genuinely good to know if this is an illusion and I am better to just stare at it until it fixes itself.

Yep, quitting "background" apps is frequently suggested by iPhone developers too. Especially for big memory intensive games like Infinity Blade:

Yes I believe the OS handles most instances of this, but I guess freeing up memory etc causes delays/stutters and some apps may not handle these well.
