And while you're at it, tell Jarvis to cut it out. Surely the most annoying trail ever, even before the hundredth hearing of it.

(I'm actually enjoying the music today, btw).

Tell me when they played a Beatles and a Beach Boys track. I'm struggling to think of the last time I heard either.
Oh, just remembered, RadMac played 'God Only Knows' a week or two back, which is one of the finest pieces of pop music ever written, so there.
Anyway, 6 is A MUSIC STATION. Their remit is to play the best music, they don't play either the Beatles or Beach Boys very often, so quit whining.

Again, which bit? From 10am , every DJ had an hour, playing all new music, and there was a lot of variety during the day. I don't recall hearing any 'whale music', specifically, although there was a really beautiful piece, based around birdsong from South America, with a girl singing over the top of a dance beat.
Quite taken with that.

^ hear hear

Keep doing what you're doing. Apart from smashing out the same limited playlist 12 times a day - anyone for another listen to St Vincent again?

Oh I don't know. His ramblings do allow me to drift off and plan my day ahead, in between the music.

Courtney Barnett, a 27yo Australian lass, with a remarkable way with words, her lyric writing is quite inspired.
The song is Pedestrian At Best, a great title.
I love her to bits. Kate Tempest is her UK equivalent.

I've just tried to listen to Kate Tempest and failed miserably.
Awful stuff. Courtney Barnett though is rather fine and currently played a lot.
Top 6music for me this week was all the Seasick Steve stuff off the new album. I'll be buying that as soon as its released.

I have 6 Music inflicted on me at work. While it is fine for half the time, the other half it seems obscure for the sake of it and, to be honest, plays a lot of up its own are dross that regularly involves wailing or yelling. And the descriptions by the presenters are a bit Zane Lowe with the volume turned right down. And a lot of the music is a bit mopey. And they keep playing bloody Morrissey.

Fortunately the guy that likes it has just left. The problem now is the alternatives...

The playlist annoys, and repetition of old classics (never imagined I'd tire of Love (laugh?) like Blood) but otherwise I'm happy with variety.

The playlist does become tiresome on occassion. But not a day goes by when I don't hear something i like/love.
I didn't think it was possible to play "love Like Blood" too much. 🙂

Dear 6Music,

Keep doing what you're doing. You're awesome.

^^ This!!

The new music day gave me about 20-odd artists to check out, usually have one or two new ones a day scribbled down.

Name me any other station that has such a variety of music all day long. I spend most of my day in vans and the days I have one of the two new ones with DAB in them are fantastic due to 6Music alone. The other days I rarely turn the radio on as it's far too easy to predict the next song on most FM stations.

Yep 6 is the best of the bunch.
Pre Crapital xfm was good. Unlistenable crap now.
Radio2 is pretty amazing these days if you can remember the days of Gloria Hunniford and Stewpot.

I can't do commercial radio, adverts do my tits in. If you think the playlist is repetitive, try listening to westFM here in deepest Ayrshire. Gads.

XFM became Nation in South Wales, used to play loads of rock and metal. A complete opposite of everything else we could pick up! Sadly it got popular so has had to play pretty much the same dross as all the others to keep the listening figures up and the advertisers happy.

6 Music is pretty much all we listen to during the day. Mark Radcliffe on Wednesdays on R2 for the folk show and Country Bob on Thursdays for the, well, country show. Jazz FM for dinner jazz of an evening. Sherry at Christmas, champagne at weddings, yes... Werthers, anyone?

Love it when Ravenscroft is in for Lamacq as it breaks up the RadMac -> Lammo -> Riley middle-aged-man fest.
