For me, Albert King.

Have listened to his Albert King: Live recording (on Charly) and wish I could have seen him play live.

EDIT - he died in 1992 so that is, at best, impractical

For the post, Sex Pistols would have been awesome to see, having seen most of the other bands at the time including the Clash

Freddie Mercury. The one I regret most is passing up the opportunity to see Queen during their Winter 1977 tour (News of the World) Loads of my mates went but for some reason I didn't. Never got to see them live after that.
I guess that does give away my advancing years!

Cliff Burton & Hillel Slovak (although all of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are now dead to me).

@seven, Sid wasn't the original bass player with the Pistols.

I'm fairly happy with who I saw as a teen, but like John, The Clash were still performing and I didn't see them, their first album is probably still my favourite. I seem to recall Joe Strummer had a rep for regularly going AWOL before gigs in the early 80s. Poly Styrene died recently, would have liked to have seen X-ray Specs. A few above have said Ian Curtis/Joy Division, I'd probably agree with them. Really old bands, Sky Saxon/The Seeds and probably Hendrix and Joplin/Big Brother and the Holding Co.

Queen (Freddy)
Free (Kossof)
Nick Drake
Jeff Buckley
Sandy Denny
Jimi Hendrix
The Who
Would have loved to have seen Joni Mitchell with Jaco Pastorious on bass.
Saw Pink Floyd and Rory Gallagher on the same evening at two different venues, seen the Clash, Thin Lizzy (five or six times), Metallica, (three times), Ian Dury and The Blockheads, (what a character),
I think Sandy is the one I most regret never having seen, her voice and music mean a great deal to me, and I could cry sometimes at having missed seeing her when she played Bristol Colston Hall. Very sadly missed.

Me too! I was in the rebuilt bit too, I'd to surrender my posh "souvenir ticket" for a crappy one due to the layout changing.

Saw Zappa at Wembley Arena and it was a massive disappointment as he was off on one of his guitar trips although the film "Does humour belong in music" is a truly magnificent piece of work.

Saw Rory Gallagher at Hammersmith Odeon and it was ****in awesome.

I'd like to add Johnny Cash to my list

Brack, I met Stuart Adamson whilst working at HMV in the mid 90s. Out of the people that did store appearances he was the most down to earth and peaceful. A real shock when he took his life.

My choices...

Layne Staley - Alice in Chains
Gerard Smith - TV on The Radio
Andrew Wood - Mother Love Bone

Stinkerbell ----- GG Allin????? You must be wanting something in a gig to see him fling sh*t around!!

I had tickets to see Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck at Hammersmith - but SRV died two weeks beforehand 🙁 I was hoping that was going to be a 'Seeing Hendrix at Woodstock'-style revelation moment...

I have been lucky enough to have a couple of other people here's wants though. I saw Queen with Freddy at Wembley in '86. And I saw Pantani on the Ventoux.

Stuart Adamson- Big Country

Surely The Skids would've been the choice?
This belated fondness for Big Country is a complete mystery to me.

Gerard Smith - TV on The Radio
Holy... I didn't know he'd died. 🙁
