In light of that 'Road kill on a bike' thread, I am wondering...

Does anyone else have a hard time dealing with small dead bodies?

I once stepped on a squirrel, and a friend had to finish it off, as I couldn't deal with the little thing. I have also been entirely freaked out by the sight of a dead cat, and wholly unable to collect and dispose of the body of a dead wood pigeon in my back garden. And don't even mention rodents!

I am not sure what the precise factor that puts me off actually is, but the issue has at times been debilitating.

Am I alone?

I don't think I'd have a problem so long as its insides weren't on the outside. Roadkill etc would be wholly different.

Are you vegetarian? If not, why doesn't dead lumps of cow / pig concern you? I have a hard time rationalising "I can't stand the sight of blood, but happy to eat steak so long as someone takes care of the wetwork for me" (which is a large part of why I'm veggie, I get squicked at the concept).

No problems at all when it's a case of fluffy little critters going in to the pot, but I don't really like to see roadkill. Seems a waste of life to me. If it's going to die, surely it could at least be food? Then again, many carrion eaters thrive on roadkill, so who knows.

Saw a roadkill barn owl on my Sunday ride. That wasn't a good thing to see.

If I've shot them I will make sure they are dead but it's not the most pleasant thing to do giving their necks a tweak.
