Anyone got one? Does it work? I'd quite like to stop waking up at 6am feeling like a bag of shit before work if possible!

I've got one, used to use it all the time and loved the fact that it gradually woke me up. Helped with depression through winter too. I have two young kids now though so it doesn't get used. If you're interested in giving one a go let me know.

I've been using one for a few years now and it's great. I can;t say that the "SAD" effect is reduced and the bulb in ours was replaced with a conventional one when the original eventually failed.

I find it a good way to wake up steadily and they have a sunset feature too which I also like.

I stay away from home in the week at the moment and my Wife bought e a new one for the flat. this one also has a radio which switches on when the light reaches full brightness.

Both of ours are Lumie models. The one at home is the basic one and the new one I have is the first one up with FM radio stuff.

Needed a new bulb for our Lumie for months, must sort it, they do help waking in the winter before 0600 on my workdays.

I've got one, it's rubbish, it's a lumie model but it's no better than any basic alarm clock. Save your money, hippy nonsense.

Have you tried the sleep tracker apps you can get which are meant to wake you at the best possible time based on your sleep?

Have had one of the Lumie ones for years and it does wake you up more gently / gradually. I still feel shit in the morning, but to be fair that's probably more down to quality of sleep (or lack thereof!).

Come to think of it then.. any recommendations of sleep tracker apps?

If you have a spare lamp, Philips Hue bulbs can do similar.

Sounds like it should be worth a bash then, going to get one with a radio in, as I was after a bedside one anyway.

My wife has one of the Lumie ones with the radio, the radio is a bit shit, she uses one of the alarm noises. I don’t find the light wakes me up (lots of reviews say that after a week people stopped setting the alarm sounds, I think they must be lying), but it’s nice waking up in a light room, and it’s not a very abrupt awakening.

i use a Sleep app (Sleep Cycle), which I find good, but quite honestly mainly because again the alarm tone is quite pleasant, rather than the overly abrasive tones so often used. I’ve never really had a problem waking up.

I've got one and rate it for the simple fact that it allows a gradual wake up - SAD and other benefits aside (not sure about all that bit) I hated just stitching on the light. Too bright and not a nice way to start off.

Very simple and worth it IMO.

I have the basic Lumie one.  I use it in conjunction with a DAB radio alarm which comes on as the light reaches full brightness.

It's great. The light makes me gradually come to, so when the radio comes on I'm already aware, if not awake and I don't get that horrible groggy feeling which I used to get from the alarm suddenly going off in the dark.

Got a Phillips one about 6 years ago.  It's been used as a bedside light (and alarm clock) for all that time and not blinked.  Quality product.  Also does it's day job well and wakes one up in a far more civilised manner.

I would suggest that one is used with a total blackout blind.  This has had a greater positive effect on my sleep than an alarm clock.

We had a lumie one with radio but the build quality was poor and radio reception not great so while waking up with the light was good, the blast of white noise from a detuned radio wasn't.  The lamp cover got cracked and discoloured and one of the buttons fell off the front too.

We got bought the Pure version a couple of years ago and it's so much better than the Lumie. With both I found that the gradual light increase was a far easier way to wake up than a conventional buzzer or radio.

Great in winter. Light gradually comes on rather than a rude awakening

This thread got me looking at replacing my cheapy Lumie one which I've had for years (I recall it was about £50?). I love it, but it's old, looks it and occasionally does odd things like switch on in the night (not very often but it has happened). My wife hates it as it doesn't match the decor of the room and is a bit grubby, etc.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was anything I could do with smart lights like the Philips Hue bulbs etc. so I could use the bedside lamp that has sat unused for the past 6 years......

It looks like the Philips Hue app and smart lights have this feature built in, and for about £50 (same cost as my Lumie) you could have yourself a wake-up bulb that will fit into any light fitting (Mrs BOAS=happy with this idea).

Then I looked at the Hive version, which is attractive as at some point in the future I could tie-in a heating controller and other bits and bobs to the control hub BUT the way that you have to programme a wake-up function is a bit clunky (apparently you have to programme the steps: 6:45 10% / 6:50 15% / 6:55 25% etc). But I'm sure that a simpler version of this functionality will come eventually......

Anyway, something to consider.......
