Wedding anniversary tomorrow , live in Birmingham and we both have the day off, fancy heading out somewhere for a nice walk and meal at lunch time
any ideas ?
Thought maybe Chester, Stratford , the coast is a bit far for a few hrs but still fancy it !
Down to London, nice walk along the river, then take her up The Oxo Tower?
Wyre Forest and Bewdley. Lots of lovely options including a one way walk along the Severn and return on the Severn Valley Railway steam train. Not too far from Birmingham.

The Chase? Always pleasant for a few hours of wandering.
Clent? Close to home but the lunch at The Fountain is really good.
Ashbourne? 90 minutes drive I guess, loads of walks and nice pubs.
Further afield, you can get a train to Windermere from New Street in 2 hours, nice stroll in the hills and home again?
some great ideas and yeah i laughed at Flash's comment ... maybe later if im lucky 😉
How about a nice coastal stroll through the Northern Riviera before taking her up the tower?

S Shrops is great right now. Â As is Three Tuns ale 🍻
Clun.
1. Arrive early morning. Park by bridge in (free) car park. Â Get coffee and danish pastry from Post Office/Spar. Sit by bridge and scoff.
2. Walk around castle ruins and along river. Â Have a dip.
3. If feeling like a good walk then drive up to Guilden Down 5 mins away, park up and walk up to Bury Ditches hillfort for amazing views.
4. Â Return to village. Â Lunch at Sun Inn.
or
Church Stretton
1. Arrive 9ish. Â Park at Batch Valley (quiter with more shade). Â Walk a loop.
2. Â Drive over The Burway from town. Â Arrive at Bridges pub nr Ratlinghope. Â Scoff food and drink by the little brook.
3. Â Return along scenic drive via The Burway then Ticklerton, Corve Dale and Bridgnorth
I travelled the Burway last week (very, very early morning) and it was breathtaking:

Forgot to say if you enjoy a dip then the NT Â (at last look) allow open water swimming at the Victorian reservoir off Cardingmill Valley.
I also found a natural pool in the River Clun last weekend, decided to take the plunge (1 inch at a time 😎) and then swam with dragonflies and damselfies fluttering around my bonce, little trout under my feet. Â Stuff of dreams. (if you like that sort of stuff)
Take home:Â Malvern Rider likes wetdreams
Church Stretton
1. Arrive 9ish
eh? No-one takes the day off work on their wedding anniversary to get up at 7am!
Go with your original plan, Chester. Round the walls, which are a complete circle of the city. Stroll down by the river and Grovesnor park. Eastgate/Watergate streets for the Rows, stop in Corks Out bar on Watergate which is in the catacombs underground. Cathedral and the surroundings are also very nice. Hard to go wrong with Chester.
^ ^Good point. Â Early arrival optional of course.
Some like to walk to a lunch, some like to walk a lunch off...
maracucho's  suggestion re one way walk and SVR steam train sounds great.  Did the SVR for Mrs Rider's 50th and it was good fun. Took some plonk and cake on the train. Don't know about good lunches in Bewdley or Bridgnorth though, it's been a long time since eating out that way and my old haunts have closed
Eastleach Martin, the prettiest and entirely untouristified village in the Cotswolds. Park at the Victoria pub at the top of the vilage, leisurely half hour walk down through the village and across the clapper bridge and along the river, past the churches, back up through the village and back to the pub, where you can sit outsie and have a delicious lunch.
Lovely
