I've realised that the small bike shop I drive past on the way to somewhere I visit occasionally for work is in fact the original bad-boy of onlne sales, Dave Hinde himself. However I can't find anything relating to his dealings that isn't half a decade old, so is his business now:

a. A handy bike shop to know about in case I am short anything while passing.

b. Worth calling into for the full Arthur Daley experience.

c. Probably best avoided all round?

I’m hoping for a) and b) please

Wasn’t it his online sales ability that was a model example of customer service?

For reasons of your own principles the man and the business do not deserve your coin. Scummy man and a scummy business that deserve a financially shitty final years.

OK so some mixed reviews... OK, not all that mixed.

To be honest the awful reviews seem to have dried up very suddenly about five years ago, so I'm not sure if the man himself stood down in the business or perhaps just took up yoga.

Perhaps I'll find myself with an idle need for some bottom bracket bearings next time I'm passing and I'll report back

in 1995 i bought some wheels off Dave Hinde. Campag rims on XT hubs. £110 the pair.

They were good. Only retired the front wheel about 2 years ago.

This was, of course, before online sales...

Pretty sure he sold to one of his workers a few years ago. I live in Northwich, very many of my club mates won't use them due to piss poor face to face customer service including those famed wheels which have a habit of loosing all spoke tension randomly. He also managed to get himself blocked from our club Facebook group for basically being a knob.

OP, the Northwich Halford are one of the good ones. I'd go there.

Yeah, that's it. eBay shop was called something like No. 1 bike parts.

Dave Hinde no longer has any interest in the business - but his wife is still involved with a bike related business trading from the same address.

To be fair, I've not seen anyone reporting Sick! offering to settle customer service disputes via car park pugilism...
