I've just seen that on FB.
Almost cried. Dead upset about that.
I've seen them so many times, got tickets for 2 venues for next October to see them.
Met him afterwards, at my first ever 'big' concert in 1979.
If Jet had gone, that would not really be a shock, but Dave was so full of life.

RIP. Golden Brown was a work of a talented and subtle musician. Not popular with DJ's in the 80's though

You know how some bands and some songs just define a period or an event in your life. Well there was a trip to Yorkshire to go potholing with some people I had not met before where I was introduced to the music of the Strangliars. The impression was so great, that even now sitting here 34 years later listening to No More Heroes I am transported back. Great, provocative music that was always a just out of the mainstream and very under-rated. RIP Dave.

Ah that's sad, he made The Stranglers something different and something really special.

We need to hear one of his solos. Go Dave

At the time the Stranglers were a punk band. As I’ve grown up so has their music. They were so much more.

This is as good as any record ever.

The way all the instruments weave together in this track always made it one of my faves of theirs, especially playing along with the bassline.

In one of those slightly uncanny coincidences I played a Stranglers track yesterday, the first time I've done so in decades.
It was 'No More Heroes', which was always my favourite.

RIP Dave

Does anyone know where he died (country, hospital?). Can't seem to find that info anywhere.

Very sad. Mate of mine plays guitar in Department S and the Rezillos. He knew Dave quite well and played guitar with him on stage etc. Apparently he was a truly lovely fellow. RIP.

Walk On By's the one isn't it. That extended keyboard/bass part is something I've heard so many times, but still sounds utterly brilliant.

Dez, as you say heard  Walk On By so many times ( it's on our shop playlist) but just sat and properly listened to it.

Not an ounce of fat on it anywhere. A perfectly crafted song performed perfectly.

It's got space, it's got intensity and most of all feeling. Soul music in its truest definition.

Had "Down in the Sewer" blasting this morning. Another excellent combination of JJ's bass and Dave Greenfield's excellent keyboard skills. Still a favourite.

A real loss. It was him that made the difference to their sound. At their best they were like the doors with beautiful Organ sounds. The difference with the stranglers was his sound and the great songs they made. My mate at school played me Dagenham Dave and I was hooked. Very very good live too.
