...such memories from being a kid! Spike, Billy, M and W, Cleese, all stuff I grew up on. My 17 your old daughter needed three goes at the watch sketch then got it. Subtle, not sweary just good old fashioned comedy.

Literally as I opened this thread the Dave Allen theme came on Radio 2 - spooky!

...and may your God go with you

I Loved Dave Allen when I was wee. like proper wee. (pre-school)
Aidan Gillen wasn't very good at playing him was he? 🙁

I grew up watching Dave Allen on the telly, and even on his earliest shows there was something about his humour that I realised, unconsciously, was somehow different, and which I now recognise as being subversive long before the so-called ‘alternative comedians’ came along.
His ability to wind up what we would now call the ‘Daily Wail’ faction was well ahead of its time, and his documentaries also were well ahead of their time; I don’t recall ever having seen any, sadly - in fact, it would be wonderful to se repeats of everything he did, it would stand up against anything that’s transmitted today.
Compared to Dave Allen, the likes of Michael Macintyre are, in my humble opinion, rank amateurs.
With the emphasis on rank.
Oh, and may your God go with you. 😊

Loved - and still love - Dave Allen. As said above, something subversive without resorting to being abusive, and ahead of his time in many ways.

There was an excellent documentary about him on a year or so back and iirc there was something in his will restricting repeating his shows or something - but I may have dreamt that?

Was this prompted by the documentary about him that was on TV last night?

I think he made it contractual that much of the stuff he did could only be repeated once, if my beer-addled memory is not lying to me.

Nope, it was mentioned last night about the one repeat. One of the other "comedians" offering sound bites for the show commented in the very fact that he still watches some reruns on an old vhs tape.

God see's that Adam is happy, I didn't put him there to be happy. I'll put a stop to that 😀
