Hi all,
Boring thread alert.
I manage to wear through socks pretty quickly - I spend a fair bit of time at work in work-boots, but they get pretty hot so I don't like wearing thick socks, but then the thin socks wear through.
Thinking of splashing out on something like Darn Tough socks for their durability/lifetime warranty (I'm also trying to make "better" purchases in general - whether that be ethically sourced, minimal environmental impact, or simply longer lasting).
Anyone on here have any thoughts on them? Is getting a replacement pair a hassle from the UK? Any better options? I'd like to be able to wear them for pretty much everything - office work, with workboots, cycling, etc.
Thanks,
Duane.
I have some Alpkit merino hikers that just refuse to die it seems. Sadly they don't make them anymore, but they do have alternatives.
I’ve got loads of Darn Tough socks, love them, simply the best socks I’ve had.
Can’t tell you about the warranty from the UK cos even the first pairs I bought (c2008) are still going strong.
Sadly amazon seems the best option in the UK so I always buy them when I’m in across the pond cos it’s cheaper that way.
I met the guy who started Darn Tough in a bar in Germany a few years ago. Nice bloke. He gave me a pair of socks to try out and they're still going strong. They're a denser feeling weave or knit than something like Smartwool, but they do seem to last well. I think you lose a little bit in comfort, but they're very durable.
I mourn the passing of Large Hardware, I’ve got two pairs of their Kevlar-reinforced socks from around twenty years ago, one pair have small holes just above to Kevlar. I think Kevlar-reinforced socks are available from other sources, I’ll have to do some digging around.
