Last couple of days STW had flipped to dark mode for me. It's not the phone that is setting it, so I reckon it's stuck on here somehow. Where is the setting to turn it off? I've looked through my profile, it's not obvious.

Cheers.

I put a similar note on the ‘new forum’ thread the other day, not sure if anyone from the tech team reads them anymore though..

Ah yes you did, and Mr Bike Revive mentioned it on his 3 questions thread. Sorry, didn't realise it was a website issue.

If you clear cache and log back in you get daytime mode back. I have to do it every day since Monday. There may be an option for it somewhere but I can't find it. I've got dark and nighttime modes off on my phone settings.

That's interesting, and possibly helpful for the tech team to trouble shoot. I've noticed that the issue doesn't happen on a PC desktop, just my phone, and thinking about it I reckon it started when my phone came out night-time mode, but STW didn't. I'm on Android 16 using Chrome browser.

Anybody able to answer this question ?

Glitch then.

But if it is turnoffable, how do you turn it on ?

I've a left eye cataract, and pretty much getting blasted here. The black/white is a lot easier on it.

I asked this before and apparently it's determined by your system settings, unlike other sites/forums where it's a user selectable option.

Yeah pretty much every issue in this site is down to something the user has done. Wrong browser, wrong OS, wrong trousers….

Yep.

I got logged out and couldn't log back in on my PC because the log in box just wasn't visible.

Asked on the new forum thread and also emailed.

No response to either.

Seems they just don't GAS .

Think I'll cancel my membership on here when it's time to renew.

Shame as I've been a paid up member for years but hardly bothered coming on these days. It's just too much trouble a lot of the time and it seems daft to pay for something I hardly use.

Well it’s pretty weird that I have a dozen browser windows all in Light mode and STW in Dark mode, if it’s a system setting. Looks like just one more irritation that makes me regret renewing my subscription.

Apologies in advance, but what is "dark mode?"

Sorry, apologies.

It’s when your screen background is black so text in black and icons in black are invisible. Just another STW benefit.

Thanks, but I can’t find it and frankly I’m sick of this bloody site (the site, not the people)

Ok, idk why dark mode is on permanently, but where’s the bloody setting in profile pls ? I’ve hard a good look and can’t find it under the obvious preferences section. Using my phone if that makes a difference.

I do know I haven’t changed it. FFS.
This site is a pita.

Agree, totally frustrating. How the owners can hope for people to invest in the STW group when they can’t/wont even do simple fixes on their website is dumbfounding.

We use a dark mode plugin for the site. Not sure why it decide to go on the Fritz and I can only apologise for not catching it earlier. We dont have a user setting in profiles for dark mode anymore. The plugin replaced that by following your device settings. I’ve made some changes to the software settings overnight. It’s worked for me on my phone but beyond that I won’t know until Anthony takes a look tomorrow. The settings are cookie based so if you are still getting permanent dark mode then you could try clearing your cookies to trigger the change.

Ok, I didn’t do anything to enable permanent darkness or disable easy photo uploads, however, it would be nice to go back to normal.

I’ve read about clearing cookies/cache but then I can’t see on an iPad how I do that without clearing all cookies, some of which are connected with other sites. I am careful with cookie acceptance so don’t want the hassle of starting again.

Any ideas how I can see the light?

To clear just the stw cookies on ipad

settings - apps - safari - history and website data - advanced - website data

then select and delete the one you want, in this case stw.

Yes, tried it. I can’t find any way just to clear STW cookies and cache (whatever that is) without clearing all the useful stuff from other website that I visit.

Anthony is working on this riht now and hopes to have a fix that doesn't need you to clear STW cookies.

All you have to do is scroll down to the bottom of any page and find the theme switch, either dark or light mode. You can easily switch it back to light mode there.

Yep, it is here (Android, Chrome)

I tried the logoff, clear cookies, and log back on again a few days ago. Made no difference. Went 🤷‍♂️.

Edit - just tried it again, and this time (so far, anyway) it's worked. Time will tell.
