Staying in tonight so might give this a go. There seems to be so many about at the minute, they do love their crime-drama.

Also tempted to watch Das Boot on Film4 but it appears to be about 4 hours long unless my TV guide has got it wrong?!

May I also recommend the Swedish author Arne Dahl's series of books that have been televised; read (or had read to me) the first 'Mysterioso' as an audiobook in the car and became hooked.

After being disappointed to find that the DVD's were hard to find I found an online shop in Sweden that sent me the first two DVD's in the series for £25 delivered - and, incredibly, they arrived in only three days: http://www.discshop.se/filmer/arne_dahl/C918

CG; have you seen'Headhunters'?

I have enough Danish drama thanks, I can hear my wife arguing with the kids in the bathroom in Danish as I type this!

Wallander is Swedish for the record.

Jeg kan ikke rigtig forså hvornår Dansk fjernsyn er så cool pt.

I loved Wallander (The Krister Henriksson versions, couldnt get to like Rolf Lassgård and the Kenneth Branagh were dreary)
The Killing part 1 was good right until the end when the resolution was a bit crap, and part 2 wasnt brilliant.
Been kind of enjoying "Thos who Kill" another Danish one. The bint in it is a bit of a pain, but a necessary foil for the psychologist to do his thing.
Missed the first 3 episodes of Borgen so have episodes 4-10 sitting on the computer waiting for it to be repeated.

Cheers for the heads up on the Bridge then, just set series record on the computer.

I like listening to how they speak their language not that I understand what they say but rather interesting ... not sure about the film.

I would prefer a period film of the Dans ... a bit like Tudor would be good.

My Danish OH thinks they're all overrated and refuses to watch them with me, apart from occasionally shouting out "what did they translate that to"?

Koldskål in Borgen and I still haven't worked out exactly what it is

I enjoyed it but haven't watched The Killing or any of the others, have a feeling I might have been a bit less bothered if I'd seen them first. I also wondered about the Danish/Swedish language thing?

Decided against watching Das Boot as want to see Match of The Day but might pursue this later after reading the reviews online etc, looks really good.

I think some brits can hear the difference between Danish and Norwegian/Swedish ,but differentiating between those is not so easy.

I speak pretty good Danish now but I struggle to understand any swedish and only get a little norwegian

Koldskål is a summer desert made with butter milk, lemon and egg which you eat cold with small biscuits. Delicious.

I've V+ed The Bridge, The Killing was ok and I really like Borgen.
I've been trying to learn Danish for 3 years (with not much commitment) and it's not an easy one to learn, my Danish fiancée isn't much help either.
I want to at least be able do do some of my wedding speech in Danish so I need to try harder.

It seemed very cold, & bereft of emotion. I was into it but got fed up of the wife moaning, so one to watch when she's not in / gone to bed.

I'm not convinced by the series at the moment. Mainly because I have trouble believing that someone with that degree of aspergers would make a viable detective.

That was my thoughts on it as well. Stretches the credulity somewhat. Will still stay tuned to it though to see if it improves. The Killing and Borgen were both slow-burning hits.

The fact that it's being screened while the Breivik trial is going on and the way the plot is going gives it an interesting angle, another insight into the extremes of the political spectrum that exist in Scandinavia, which is so often held up as a paradise of liberal, tolerant thinking.

'often held up as a paradise of liberal, tolerant thinking'....

so long as you don't have to live there! lol

i didn't get that the detective woman had aspergers. i thought the programme makers were just noising up the swedes!

TBF...while it has its extremes like every country, aren't the masses a buit less frothing at the mouth Dail FAil than say over here?

Well, not really sure what to think! After watching 2 hours of it, I was unable to 'warm' (insert better choice of word here) to the two main characters. And I really did want to.

Funny though, cos with both The Killing (including American version) and Borgen, I was hooked right away.

Confession time - I enjoyed 40 winks. 😳

If that's your criterion for watching a TV series, you'll have some time on your hands 🙂

I thought it was pretty interesting - not a copy of The Killing, and more gripping than Wallander.

It's a bit of a confused situation. Take a look at this and tell me if it shows liberal tolerance ...

Certainly seems that way from the outside looking in. No doubt people who live or have lived there could tell you different. I guess my point is no stronger than that there seems to be a parallel between the well-planned atrocities committed by Breivik and the grisly killings seemingly driving the plot in The Bridge, and they're both in the public eye here in the UK at the same time.

Yeah, confess I was struggling a bit with that too, although had to LOL at the sex/post coital scene, and the bloke's reactions!

Not as immediate as the Killing, Borgen or Those Who Kill, but given the alternative diatribe on the telly, happy to stick with it and see where it goes.

Film of one of Jo Nesbo's books - if it makes any difference my wife loved it too!
