Boredom strikes and I’m looking for a dangle mug for my boy. My mug de jour was picked up in Canada from a little coffee roaster. Anyone seen or know of anything similar in uk that will mail order, please?
Did I mention I was bored?

Go on, I'll ask. What's a dangle mug?

Sixteen quid for a tin mug. I'm stepping away.

Current thinking is dangling is bad. What you need is a pack mug.

Dangling in line of all the dust, mud and sheep turds, no thanks! Mine gets packed! I was riding with someone a little while ago and every hour or so a stone would land in the mug and start jingling away.

Looking again, the £1.19 one even comes with the requisite marketing guff:

Lightweight and incredibly hard-wearing thanks to their steel construction, the white and blue colour scheme of this cup is filled to the brim with retro charm, creating a character that is only exemplified and rendered more unique with each dent, scratch and scrape delivered through the course of their lifespan.
The perfect size for Latte, Cappuccino, Americano and more, this 350ml cup is made for those who dream of hazy mornings watching the sun rise over the mountains of Snowdonia - a taste of the great outdoors in the comfort and warmth of your own home!

Features and Benefits:
Crafted from Steel - Lightweight, durable and built to last, whether at home or on the trail
White Enamel Coating - With blue trim for that classic outdoor camping aesthetic

Crafted. Hilarious.

Stealing stationery from work doesn't hold the same joy since I've been working from home.

I would too, but there's nothing quite like scorching Heinz tomato soup from a tin mug.

A couple of quid seems about right.

Oh, don't get me wrong, tin mugs are brill. Sixteen quid for one is hilarious.

I'm not doing very well at the whole 'stepping away' thing, am I.

Meh - if you're not dangling an aeropress you're no one.

I've seriously considered a #danglemug, just for the irony factor.

Support some worthwhile work. And probably quite 'indie'. https://treesforlife.org.uk/product/campfire-mug-plant-trees/

Only problem with a tin mug is they lose heat bloody quickly! And a freshly brewed mug usually needs gloves to avoid blisters on fingers.
I’ve got a couple kicking around somewhere, red ones with ‘retro charm, having a character that is only exemplified and rendered more unique with each dent, scratch and scrape delivered through the course of their lifespan.’ 😁

We use tin mugs - IMO the best compromise when camping despite the weight. TI mugs transmit heat even quicker and burn your lips - tin ones do not. Coffee and whisky tastes foul out of plastic

However - never dangle one - its something I have laughed at people doing since I first started wild camping.

An actual STW #danglemug please???

Double-walled Ti mugs work well, the only issue being that you can't cook with one.

A "charity" wristband around the top will save your lips.

Hows the taste from TI? - years ago I tried an aluminium one and it tasted foul. Would a double walled one have any weight saving over enamel?

OP - tisos have them at £3 Mine also bought from tisos ( but no loner available) has a plastic snap on lid which is very handy

also the one in the OP is too small-needs to be a pint IMO

Ooh outdoor camping. I must give that a go sometime. Will make a change from doing it indoors 😉

But, but, but... it's Titanium!!!  And you can't on the one hand say you want light weight and then want a pint mug 🙂

(Plastic would be even lighter. Can't say I've considered bamboo yet but that might be a thing).

Ti mugs don't seem to taint the food and I don't mind drinking out of one. Ti cutlery has "something" about it. It's not a taste thing, just a "sensation" that doesn't feel quite right.

Can I have a double walled Ti one with #danglemug**** (of course with ‘at’ instead of ‘@‘) laser etched on it please

I took the weight gain for the enamel mug because its just so much nicer to use than anything else. Plastic stuff makes everything taste foul

Funny isn't it - opinions - I love my ti spork

Some good suggestions. I like the Falcon basic ones (I have 2), I also baulk at the Pannier cost but hey each to their own.
As to the dangle vs. pack discussion again each to their own.
The UNT mug is very good but not seen them in tin.

Pack the flipping thing away, unless you like sheep crap coffee.

Hows the taste from TI?

I find it neutral, unlike alloy. I drink and eat from mine all the time, even whisky is fine 🙂

I’m hoping Steve Peat’s Rob Warner’s old brand make one.

UNT© if you don’t geddit

FTFY 😁
I went drinking in Vail in 1994 with the U.K. MTB team, Rob Warner was exactly like you’d expect him to be, and I heard some stories from another, female, member of the team as well...

A curious couple of questions to all the dangle deriders:
Do you not rinse your mugs anyway before drinking from them even when they have been packed?
And two; how do you cope with the general detritus that gets over your bottle top on a ride?
Firm favourite so far is @DezB iteration 👍 although for actual ability to purchase it’s erring toward the Plant Life mug.

And no, it won't be getting bashed up by being dangled anywhere soon.

1. No
2. Hydration bladder

WTF? Dangling mugs is a thing now, is it? An outdoor fashion accessory? As if you want to be in Carry On Camping?

FFS

I find thermal mugs better anyway. Hot drinks go cold really quickly on a chilly morning outside - thermal really helps.

Is a dangle mug the same as a Mumsnet beaker?
