For me, everything.

Started with rock at Jilly's, then reggae at the PSV, Binners at the Hac (turning the water off?!?)

Chair, Konspiracy and most of all, The Thunderdome on Oldham Road.

2am.

Keep The Faith.

Dance like your life depends on it.

You hear they're shutting the Grand Central?

Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room

Advice I live by. I love to dance and find it very therapeutic.

At gigs... If it moves me yes! Memorable was an And Yet It Moves gig in a Brighton pub, where everyone was crammed to the front of the stage, leaving the whole rear area of the pub free. I was a whirling dervish. That space was MINE baby 😀 Love it.
IDLES gig a couple of years ago, I even moshed for the first time in 30+ years. I was in that pit.
Next day had my TIA, but it was worth it, maaan. 😆

Bustin' makes me feel good.

And to the original question: yes, but badly. I'm particularly shameless after a beer or two, at which point I'll decide I can even dance salsa or whatever 😀

Nowhere near enough. I'm very self conscious, and rarely get carried away enough to ACTUALLY MOVE!

And then, when I do, I love it, so thanks for the reminder, I'm going to find an excuse soon...

As often as my aching bones allow , including a northern soul session in the middle of inners campsite the other weekend.
Passers by were bemused.
I can’t do drops etc now but bloody hell I used to be a great soul dancer.

I sometimes move my body when music is playing. Whether it can be classified as dancing is questionable.

Whenever I can, which normally ends up as 3 or 4 times a year at parties.

I think I am pretty good for 57, my wife tends to leave the room when I start. The youngsters seem to love it though.

Dance like nobody is watching.

Yes, when clubbing back in the 90s and 00s. Haven’t done so since a stag party in 2004-ish.

It would take a lot of alcohol to get me going but, but once I was on the floor or in amongst the throng then there was no stopping me. I can still do some of the moves now and would probably go for it in the right environment. That said, I don’t drink anymore so perhaps I wouldn’t.

Yup, years of rock and roll in a club, and any dance that's in fassion. Still a pogoing punk at heart though. I find it hard to play guitar sitting down. so much easier to get into the grove if you can move.

I’ve been known to bounce up and down in an enthusiastic fashion at gigs, but these days my knees really aren’t even up to doing that.
But I’ll still be right at the front if at all possible. Be interesting to see what Bob Mould at The Thekla will be like next year.

Not sure, looking back, if you'd call it dancing, but in the late 90's, early 2000's I was moving my body in rhythmically with the help of various substances. Mostly in London and mostly in clubs that no longer exist.

Having said that, I do often groove about the workshop or in my underpants at home depending on the music.

In public, not for ages, Orbital gig on the day Leeds Urban bike park opened IIRC, that was a good day 😀

Since then, pretty much most days in the kitchen when making food, I was out cleaning bikes and dancing to Into the Dragon this afternoon.  Beat Dis 🤣

Nearly got into a fight at a Stones gig at Millennium Stadium for dancing. Two miserable ****s behind took exception to it. What’s that all about? They wanted to sit and take video on their phones I think.
Can doctors prescribe dancing? They should.

Bad news Cougs, loved that place, last went just before lockdown.
It will be missed.

Just back from an all day Festival in beautiful downtown Prestwich, hence the post last night.
Bit nervous re Covid etc, but decided to risk it.

Yes, there was a little light frugging, but I think I got away with it.

Yes, but I dance like Elaine Benes. I'll have a little bop along to the wireless if something good*'s on.

Ah man! Gawd knows what some people think they're doing at gigs! I was with a woman once (met via a gig buddies online thing) and a bunch of girls in front were dancing - she leant forward and told them off. I was out of there (once the band had finished!). Bizarre.

Whereever, whenever. Rock, 80s/90s dance, disco, cheesy wedding music, northern soul...

recently (well, 2 years ago) took up ballroom and latin with Mrs NBT, that's really enjoyable

Dance like nobody is watching.

Abso-bloody-lutely this.

We were at a wedding do on Saturday night. The kids were all going bananas on the dance floor. Someone noted, whimsically, that it would be great to be like that again and just go mental on the dancefloor. Mrs Binners interjected that there was absolutely no reason why we couldn't, so we all did.

It was ace! We all realised just how much we'd missed it 😀

This. It is my life's biggest regret that I've never managed to throw off the self conscious realisation of how stupid I look when dancing.

Nobody cares what you look like though. Very few people look good when dancing. Thats the simple fact of the matter. So why care?

Theres few things more fun than bouncing around like a lunatic with your mates.

I remember seeing a documentary on the whole Madchester thing and one of the guys from 808 State made the observation that 'Ecstasy can make white men dance'

Well... not strictly true. It just made us think that we could 😀

It's a hangup Binners, and in my case a fairly deep seated one. It goes along with some other social anixety issues and I'm afraid it's not as simple as just saying 'why care'. It's the way my head is wired, not just a case of cba or don't fancy it.

I do sort of shuffle about uncomfortably at weddings and such, because it's expected, but I feel extremely uncomfortable and never enjoy it. Sad? yes it is.

Yup!

At Festwich yesterday we set up a nice, socially distanced space at the back, sent the son in law off to the drinks queue and went for it.
Seeing the grandkids and their mates from school dancing and running about like idiots was just amazing.
So we joined in.
Wonderful.

As mentioned above, have you ever considered taking ecstasy? Pretty good for throwing off inhibitions (so I've heard 🙂 ). I'm only half-joking!

I thought this was going to be another vax/anti-vax thread for a moment given the title...

Ah well, seeing as it is about dancing. No - I dance like a thunderbird puppet under the control of a completely novice puppeteer but seeing as house music of various genres is all I danced to I figured I had paid my entry fee the same as any other bugger so I could damn well dance how I wanted. And if others got amusement from my terrible moves then they got bonus value...

It's rare these days for me to go out but when I do I still chuck some poorly coordinated shapes on the dance floor 🙂

🙂 I'm 57 years old, I may have missed that particular boat! Maybe the next family wedding I go to, I'll pop a few before I get in the middle of the dancing toddlers and maiden aunts and 'give it large'. What could possibly wrong? 😆

£££ I expect. I've no idea. There's always the Salisbury, for now.

You ever go the Napier in Blackburn

Many, many times. Even back before the brewery decided to make downstairs 'respectable.'

That's the wrong question, though. I don't know how old you are, did you ever go in the Vulcan?

Still a pogoing punk at heart though.

same. at 56 im quite happy to stand a bit further back now and take it all in a bit more for some bands, but when you get that feeling, you just got to get in that mosh!

latest band has been Idles, every time ive seen them ive had to join in, you just cant stand back and watch them bad boys. first time i saw them was with some workmates. id only heard one single, didnt even know what they looked like and thought itd make a good night out at rock city for us all, but as the others arent really gig-goers, plus they dont really do punky music, we stood and watched. for half a song..... 😆
few years ago got slung out of an Enemy gig for crowdsurfing. its yer actual elf and sayftee innit, whats the world coming to! i knew they were slinging people out for it tho so waited til the last encore before getting the obliging leg up.

apart from that its just yer regular 'dad dancing' at weddings etc 😀

Oh yes.
I don't care if anyone is watching either.
In the kitchen, in the shower, on the piste, on the trails, in the sea, in the garden, in my workroom.
Dancing needs to be put on prescription.
Any body movement to music is stress busting, joy making and exercise.

Nobody cares what you look like though.

Truth.

I wish I'd had this epiphany aged ~15. I was so scared and so paranoid about hitting the dancefloor, it never occurred to me that everyone else was too busy thinking the same thing to care what you were doing. See also, "girls."

A few years on I realised, no-one cared, and have since had a wild old time over the years bouncing up and down. (See also...)

You dancing?

You asking?

I’m asking!

I’m dancing!

A lass once leaned over to me in a nightclub, from the next table and said "You dancing?". I replied "You asking?" - perhaps a little too eagerly. She said "No, I just wondered if you'd keep an eye on my coat".

Obviously none of my mates relentlessly took the piss about that one...

A really hot "totally out of my league" lass once approached me on the dancefloor in Jilly's, seemingly took a shine to me, we moshed for a bit, then she leaned over and asked "do you have a girlfriend?"

Completely misreading the situation I went "yes, I'll go and get her" and then was astonished that she'd left when we got back.

😂

Ask them about the Vulcan. It's the stuff of legends. When it was torn down the sign was acquired by the Napier, it was on the wall upstairs for some time.

I could tell a few stories, and I'd likely barely be scratching the surface.

(Warning: disturbing content)
I just remembered an embarrassing situation at a gig... It was a mini-festival at Somerset House in that shitty ol London place. I was dancing to Wiley and this girl started frottaging me. Like, seriously. I must've been dancin so arousingly that she couldn't keep off me. Only thing was, this was 2018 and I was about 54. She was about 17. Lordy it was flattering, but I had to speak nicely to the child and sneak off to another part of the dancing area. Once I could walk properly.
