Daughter has just noticed a leak from the valve on her bedroom radiator. Coming from the valve, turning the radiator off stops the leak.
It's one of the original 1979 radiators so could do with replacing anyway.
Are plumbers working at the moment? Don't fancy leaving her with no heating as she pretty much lives in her room (13 year old). If I can find one working then it could be done socially isolated and a good wipe down after?
Relative heatwave (14-16C max) starts this weekend down south, lasts until at least Thurs, according to Met Office.
Thought of replacing the valve yourself ?
I've done it without bleeding the system on the kitchen radiator (but the radiator is from 1995). Shut off valves, drain rad. You'll have system pressure, but much less than downstairs. Lots of towels. Spare hands ready. Undo valve from rad, then as you undo from pipe, get ready with the replacement. Water will shoot out, swap over, less water will leak, then tighten up.
Takes a steady nerve, but I wasn't draining the system again after putting £40 worth of treatment in the system recently.
I've had the washing machine and boiler both pack up this week. They got sorted double quick - the sparky said work has vanished, so you might not have that much issue finding someone to do it.
My Sister had a plumber round yesterday to change a leaking kitchen tap. (Local authority housing). Emergency call outs are allowed. They asked to stay in a different room while he was there.
Yes. Several plumbers are still working, they are considered a key worker( if there has safe)
Where are you? I have a great recommendation for a friendly plumber
Our was out last week to replace a leaky diverter valve. They're not doing bathroom refits right now but still do emergency work.
It might be that you could just nip it up to stop the leak.
Yeh they are still working. We had a water leak on Monday. Got an emergency plumber out within an hour. He said he was flat out but they are only dealing with emergencies. Ours was the first real emergency of the day - a lot of people apparently were classifying dropping taps as emergencies.
One of our local Facebook groups has a list of all the tradesmen still working. Might be worth trying in your area?
I've asked on the local FB group, usually a plumber (or their wives) lurking on there 👍
If it's the valve side rather than the TRV side, lift the cap off and tighten the packing nut a bit. Might be enough to stop the leak for a bit.
Like THIS.
I’m working but only doing emergencies so you should be able to find one.
Jesus she'll be fine.
My windows used to freeze on the inside.
