Smashed my back wheel with a nail that was carelessly discarded on the canal yesterday. The rim is cracked in several places so have ordered a new one but has a 2-3 week lead time so I'm going to have to use wife's BSO to get to work and back untill it arrives..... Oh the flippin humanity and indignation of it all....the basket is definitely coming off.

I built my other half a Cotic BFe with a set of Yari’s and Hope wheels for just this sort of occasion...

"Hi darling, I've bought you a new bike entirely altruistically."

What a donk you are for not having a bike for your wife, that has interchangeable parts.
Mrs_oab's bike sports same brakes, wheel sizes and axles as mine.

Ok.... To be fair it's a giant hybrid with skinny wheels and I've just been out on it and (not that I'll admit to her) but it rides really well. It's new , last year model and very light weight (compared to my stooge), so basket aside it might actually be pretty good for a commute

I chanced bringing my nice Hunt Aero Light Disc rear wheel to Prestatyn and the pawls won't engage since yesterday morning's failed attempt to get to Denbigh to climb Road To Hell (B5401).

No backup bike here, no riding until I get home and fit the default Fulcrum, after thinking I'd fixed it this morning.

At least we drove to Llyn Brenig this afternoon and drove back home down the above B-road.

Embrace this, nearly all things with two wheels are fun or at least interesting. The Africa bike, with two baskets, is a much loved BSO between three households and best one (of many bikes) for the odd shopping run.

Totally this. Although ‘drama king‘ may be more fitting as I reckon the ‘queen’ can ride same bike without having to get her trousers in a bunch/alert the world 🤣

Also - yes to bike-baskets. Have enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy) them immensely for utility and fun. Obviously certain cyclists with feelings of threatened-masculinity will look at you pityingly/with hilarity. Just reassure yourself that (if you’re in the UK/US/AUS) anyway the majority of people think you’re a dick/failure/immature/PITA/something-to-prove-MAMIL (delete as applicable) for simply riding a bike rather than driving a car. Having a basket is a drop in that ocean 🤣
