youve probably not forgotten, i think theyve changed it and made it a lot harder for some reason. i suffered with this a while ago and needed my IT whizz brother to help me out.

apparently the only way we can find success at doing this, is to open your photo up (click to make it large), right click the photo and 'open in new tab', put the long url in the address bar into bit.ly to create a shorter url, then paste this url between the img tags.

how complicateds that???

Urghhh... really? Thought I was going mad! Cheers Punky.

Edit: Indeed it works 🙂 Yuo can also use https://goo.gl/ to shorten the original url.

On a PC:
Select the photo (so it has a blue tick in the top left hand corner)
Select the share icon at the top of the screen (should be in a the blue banner that appeared after selecting the photo)
Click on the 'Click shareable link'
Copy the link created.

Also works when you select multiple images.

In the iPhone app:
Select the picture so that the blue tick appears.
Select the share icon (like a box with an arrow pointing upwards)
Scroll across until the Copy Link option is shown and select.

sharkbait - the long urls are a real PITA.

However, the same images still have reasonable length urls allocated to them in picasaweb! Go figure!

So when Im hotlinking for thread pics, I still got to the picasaweb portal rather than Photos. Sometimes google can act the dumbest corporation in spite of all the obviously smart people there.

The SHareable link is only a link, it isnt the image url.

i wouldnt be too sure. i tried this in one of my posts a few weeks ago, and it showed the pic ok, but..... an hour or so later it couldnt be viewed. we couldnt work out why, but it seems that definitely doesnt happen with bit.ly

Daft but interesting Stoner. Nice buns BTW 🙂

The bitly approach isn't actually too bad.

I do this. It is indeed silly. They'll probably kill the portal at some point soon. Will be a shame.

It works on some sites but STW seems to need JPEG or GIF suffix for it to work. As above I use picasaweb to get the link I need for stuff to work on here.

possibly. But it was threatened that Google+ would kill picasa too, and we've weathered that particularly ridiculous storm. Before they pull the plug, Id like to think they'd implement a few more functions in Photos first (including hotlink/embedding options)

I struggled with this. Ended up sharing the google album to my G+ (which I never use). That album has proper JPEG links harvested by right clicking the image. It's a PITA tho - nearly enough to make me go back to flickr.

good. so it's working. Really dont like going via google+, but it's easier than picasaweb once the image is in my Stuff album.

My secret stash of Ceps that grow outside the school. I think people are starting to wonder what Im doing pacing up and down outside the school gates first thing int he morning.... 😳
