My daughter was born this morning, first child, people kept telling me that the moment you set eyes on them was pretty intense. Jesus, that was an understatement ! I was in bits - she is so beautiful and lovely and I just melted. Life changed today for me, I may lose some stuff but I'm sure I will gain a hell of a lot more.

That's all - im tired and I have taken beer.

Congratulations man!

It keeps getting better (well, i can say that up till 2.5 years, no experience past that!) but for a sheer flood of emotion you're not going to better that.

God yes , well known for desk sleeping already.
Kryton-truth behold, some close friends lost their wee girl during birth last year. We saw what that did to them and those that love them. For that I am selfishly eternally thankful that our little cracker is safe and I will always remember what could have been for Alice.

Absolutely!

Congratulations! It's ace, isn't it? ?

There are a fair few of us on here a couple of months ahead of you on this one, so if there's any advice, tips or anything you need, you know where to come!

Now, try and get some sleep! 🙂

Congratulations to you and mrs nzcol, good work 🙂

11 months in here and, despite being more tired than I think I've ever been, having a little boy is still brilliant. Like many others will be sure to advise... get some sleep while you can!

Wonderful! Congrats!

Be prepared for more "dusty eye" moments, having a kid (3 of them now) has turned me into a big Jessie.

Try singing "Wires" by Athlete now. Impossible without breaking down into sobbing tears. 😳

Great stuff sir, all love from the BSN loons here to you guys.

Congratulations, it was like hitting a wall of emotion for me as well.

The first compilation slideshow I did had "this is the one" by the Stone Roses as the soundtrack, whenever I hear it I get all chocked up. It's a bit embarrasing when I go to Old Trafford (it's the song that United always come out to) I should have thought that one through!

+ 1

Stoner Jr was 8 weeks premature so his first month was spent in hospital and his first week or two in NeoN ICU - plumbed into machines that go "ping".

Nice one! Tang jnr #3 should have been born today! 6 weeks early in the end. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, like the first flush of love when you meet your new child. Keep spoiling mrs nz as let's face it they deserve it!!

My 'dusty tune' is Moon River. Sang it to my little girl as I carried her around the ward for a few hours on the first night.

"Two dreamers, off to see the world, there's such a lot of world to see..."

Gets me every time.

Congrats OP!

wwaswas speaks the truth!

Enjoy the little baby phase too. Blobby jr is starting to assert his independence. Any outside interference and he really kicks off. Nappy changes are a major trauma! Can't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all 🙂

I struggle with long sentences after OP
Nice words brought it all back for me as to what it was to stare at them for the first time in sheer wonderment and full of love [ duusty in here this morning just thinking about it]
A feeling you can never describe to anyone cherish it as the hard work grinds you down 😉

Congrats! Our wee fella is 15 months now, it seems like only yesterday that he was a helpless pink blob... (he's now a monster who is eating us out of house and home and has just discovered how to answer back!) Enjoy every minute, you won't believe how fast the next few days/weeks/months are going to disappear!

The best, and most accurate, description of having kids I've ever heard is simply 'Relentless'!

Congrats dude. Nine weeks on for me and he's still a source of wonderment every day. Enjoy these first few days as much as you can. They're very special. Glad all are ok and healthy.

Is there a name yet?

Congrats NZCol!

Conversely, I was quite taken aback by how "unemotional" I felt when I first saw Wee Ox. In fact, all I could think was "bloody hell, he looks like his uncle". Took about 6 hours for all the "flatness" to pass before I got the waves of love, but boy is it there now. I think the best description is paraphrased as follows: "Having a child is like having your own heart walking about outside your body".

Many congratulations to you and the family.

Our first of the tribe is a little girl...complete and utter daddies girl.

Just take loads of photos and videos, they change so quickly and it really is lovely to look back and see how they have changed.

Regarding dust in the eye....I sometimes wonder if I'm living in the Sahara!!

Enjoy the beer....one of the best tasting ones ever.

🙂

Congratulations! 😀

Following a theme, our 17 month old is at the child minders, i'm working from home and just caught up on some much needed sleep.

My top tip is don't over bath her, and just cotton wool and water for the first couple of months.

Many Congratulations!

7.5 years in now and I still remember that moment like it was yesterday.

Everyday there's something new - they'll make you laugh, cry, happy, sad, scared & brave. I have a sense or euphoric love for mine that's hard to explain. It's all good 8)

Dusty in here again.....

Congratulations!!

My 4th was born 6 weeks ago and I can tell you the feelings do not change no matter how many you have (although he was my first boy...so it was a wee bit more special).

Where's the gratuitous baby pic then!?!?!

Many other 'booms' will follow. My favorite was in Morrisons of all places about a week after TRHjnr was plunged.
Picture the scene....it's 8 something PM...it's a week day....there's **** all customers apart from me....I have a half filled trolley and a shopping list that consists of wipes, nappies, cotton wool etc....I'm very tired....I'm barely conscious....THEN SUDDENLY, in the middle of the cereal aisle I stop like a bunny in the headlights and say aloud with much trepidation...

"HOLY CRAP, THIS IS MY LIFE NOW!" 😯

The next day I sold my bikes.

Bringing Ms Sandwich home from hospital was when I had a moment.

"Shit, I'm a grown-up now with responsibilities. No one else will come and sort the bundle of joy in the baby seat but us"

That took a couple of decades to come to terms with!
