I've got a cheap one at the moment £40 but it sounds muffled with little treble getting through. Must have RCA out and optical in. No more than £100.

Thanks

Is there no straight TV to amp option? What connections have you got on each?

No other audio out apart from optical otherwise I would have used it to the RCA on my nice old amplifier.

That’s a shame. No real recommendations you might have to try the Amazon lottery - I suspect in the £50 to £100 range they are much of a muchness.

What about your CD player? Or could you pick up an older marantz pm6006 which has optical in.

You only have TOSlink out on the TV and only have RCA analogue inputs on the amp?

Time for a new AVR and TV? Admittedly, a bit more than £40.

Wow. Is it a CRT and a valve amp? 😁

That's kinda where I was leaning. A £100 DAC to replace a £40 DAC doesn't feel like the right solution here. Maybe the OP would be better served with a sound bar?

Second hand Topping E30 or similar would be my pick at under £100 with optical.

Had this when I got a new TV. Old one had RCA outputs and went into the Arcam amp fine. New one only has a toslink output. Amp is an old A85 so no digital input.

Got one of these back in 2019, seems fine to my ears.

I much prefer the sound of may TV amp and speakers than I do various Sonos soundbars I've heard. Plus a cheap DAC is much cheaper 😀

No headphone output?

My TV has optical out but until I got a new amp with built in DAC I used the headphone socket, I think it could be configured as line level fixed volume.

My previous TV I could never get the sound to sync properly using an external DAC.

I'm in my caravan and whilst the JVC in the bedroom has all sorts of outputs, the LG in the lounge hasn't - only optical.

I want to use my JBL Xtreme 2 speaker as a mini soundbar - or even the caravans in-built speakers (via a the built in car stereo head unit) - they both have aux in and bluetooth

Swappining the TV's round isn't an option, due to the bracket mounting positions

I'm pretty sure I have one of these kicking about unused somewhere that I bought to try with my Sony WHX-M3 headphones, but felt the in-built Sony DAC did a better job

M-Dac

This can do aux out and BT, so theoretically should do a job.

Question is - will this sound ok for my intended use? Also, could I run the JBL and the caravan speakers simultaneously (might sound horrific)  from the one DAC?
