Daughter and mate need a weeks residential apparently, at the time we were told her ncs course from last year would count but the not so proactive organisers have now said it can't be used as the date is too old.
The rest of the criteria are fine as she's a permanent volunteer at rainbows and plays netball twice a week. It's just the residential bit that's causing the problems. Any ideas? TIA

Does she have any coaching qualifications from netball? I helped on a week long sports camp for mine (10 years ago now!)

I'm not too sure of the criteria - is it just a question of being away or do they have to be volunteering or mentoring for it? My lad is hoping to use next year's National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra week for his gold residential.

Is there any sport/guiding events she can get on to? MrsSteve is helping lead a group of Derbyshire Scouts and Guides to Kanderstag next February, there were a couple of (expensive) places available last time I saw.

It's just a residential I believe. Thats why the fact we can't use ncs pisses me off as that was a week. It really doesn't matter what it is, her and her mate are up for doing anything.

I volunteered rebuilding dry stone walls for a week. Slept in a barn on the farm.

I did a week working for the National Trust. It was called ‘Acorn Camp’ IIRC, but was 39 years ago ☹️

Not sure if the plan is for daughter and mate to do the same thing, but you're not supposed to do it with a friend; the point is to be on your own for a week and having to get on with whoever is there. It may not be just the timing that disqualified the ncs she's done, but also the need to record and assess the activity at the time.

From deeper into convert's links, a search tool:

Yes, just checked with MrsMC and Kanderstag doesn't count for the residential as they will be meeting up as a group a couple of times before they go.

Did mine at Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust nature reserve in Slimbridge, on site (free) accomodation and volunteered there for the week. Great fun. I think some RSPB reserves also offer lodgings for volunteers at some reserves around the UK.

Eldest is doing gold residential with Dorset Outdoor Pursuits which I think is an ofshoot Dartmoor Activity Centre after the original company we booked closed. To be honest we were short of time and imagination so just threw money at the situtation. At this stage I just want it to be done!

Yeah that looks like our only option. She's done loads of that kind of stuff in the past though which is annoying.
Looks like it will be some kind of summer camp.

That Dorset Outdoor option looks pretty good value.

She shouldn't go with a mate - the point is you don't know the people there.

I went on an outward bound course specifically for gold D of E - was a fab week.

Google "gold d of e residential outward bounds week" and shit loads of options all over the country come up.
