So I want a Fabia estate, I'd like one that responds to the right foot and knows what a corner is.

£4K on a 130K miles old vrs (7s 0-60, £180 VED) or £7K on a newer one (£0-30 VED, 9s 0-60)?

I may be exiting the country in 6 months which f****s things up also.

Any comments welcome, even those about spoons

I recently looked at the fabia estate but it's just too ugly, I felt like I'd be giving up and accepting I'm old if I bought one! 🤣

If its just for 6 months then buy the cheapest car you can find.

Agreed it's not De Vinci, what alternatives do you propose?

How old are you? I am 54. I care less about looks. But lairy colours work

Really? Does anyone really ‘want’ a Fabia estate!?

I quite like my Fabia estate, it's nothing fancy but for people who don't care too much about cars it does a job. I got my 1.2, 110ps remapped and it's fairly nippy.

In true STW stylee I recommend a SEAT Leon ST. Pretty and corners well.

Friend has one, it has surprisingly large load area, though I couldn't get over being able basically reach the passenger door from the driver seat (sitting normally, not reaching over). For a cheap car for 6months, what not to like. Can't comment on the handling.

Not great handling, but having come from a civic type r I don't have a great idea of how standard road cars handle

in the VAG group Seat make the keener handling cousin of each  of the Skodas.

Yep, Skodas are the value option. You'll want an Ibiza or Polo for handling despite them being all the same underneath. A Fabia can be made to hustle but it's a bit dead in the steering and a bit more wallowy. The Monte Carlo is the most sporty model unless you can find a Vrs Estate (rare!).

*Raises hand*

But it would have to be a MkIII as the MkII is ugly as sin, and that's coming from someone with a MkII Fabia hatch!

Tbh this is a positive. Cars are gathering middle age spread quicker than our roads and parking spaces are growing.

Don't know what the HP is on a Fabia estate but I just sold my Civic Estate, 1.6 cdti 120ps. Nothing sporty as such but for a decent mid-sized estate it handled well, not like a barge of an estate. The petrol might be nippier?

I'd have kept it but for some anomalous issues and needing something bigger.

Thanks all. The Ibiza and Leon are both significantly heavier I think, and I've had the most fun in light cars. I get that there are other factors tho.

It appeals due to the combination of up front cost, cheap running costs, taking huge loads (matron) and not too slow (under 10s 0-60 is all I want, tho the VRS and equivalents do tempt me!)

Anyways I'm looking at whether it's worth buying one vs renting when I need it, as the 6 month thing is looking more likely.
