BBC reporting the accident near the olympic park. 30 year old male.

Damnit this was a good day for cycling... still is, but I reckon less so now.

Sad. Obviously don't know the details, but I certainly don't expect things to change on the roads just cos road racing has got a bit of a high profile at the moment.

so what?

i'm sure he isn't over the moon the hear that the poor guy got knocked down, but ultimately it isn't going to mean that he doesn't have to get up and go to work tomorrow or that his life will be greatly affected.

from reading crikey's post i wouldn't say that he is happy about it...

i'm sorry to hear the guy came off worse. he got unlucky, i guess.

'olympic bus' in quotes ? Is that a limo with a corporate dignitary ?

Horrible news. I cycled back from the Olympic park today. All to real.

things have already changed, I've not seen Gary lineker announcing a fatal road incident before. How long this awareness may last though I am less positive about unfortunately.

also topical given recent events.

Very sad news about the killed cyclist. Hopefully some momentum may be built and these needless deaths may stop.

Related - as I was coming back from the velodrome this evening, there was a cyclist being extricated from under a bus at Camberwell Green. Amazingly he seemed relatively unscathed, the bike was under the right front corner of the bus but the rider had obviously been bounced off it into the road.

Only caught a brief glimpse of it as my bus went past, at least the rider was sitting up.

Horrible news about the guy at the Olympic Park, that will have been only a few minutes after I left.

Condolences to his friends and family.

However, glad to see it getting coverage on the news this evening too. Cyclists deaths need to be driven up the news agenda. Drivers need to understand the consequences of not looking out for cyclists properly.

R.I.P. Very sad. That makes, what, 61 cyclists dead on our roads this year so far? Nice work, motorists.

Wonder if Wiggo could use his current popularity to perhaps make a difference on this count? "Oi, you *ing *ers, please try not to kill our cyclists, some of them will go on to win your country medals in years to come. ****s."

Looks like Wiggins has said a few words:

http://news.sky.com/story/967839/cyclist-killed-after-being-hit-by-olympic-bus.

His words won't sit well with many cyclists though.

Condolences to family and friends 🙁

I crawled up to him and tried to talk to him. I asked him his name and told him he was going to be alright. He didn't say anything because i don't think he could, but he looked straight at me. I did my best to look him straight in the eyes and tell him he was going to be ok. He was so afraid.

From the chap that crawled under the bus to be with him (posted on reddit a few hours ago).

RIP.

Grim.. but hopefully the juxtaposition of this and the cycling success will raise the issue a bit more in people's minds. We can but hope.
