Looking for a new jacket with a hood that's good for general bimbling about, biking/walking etc. Doesn't need to be reflective.

I've got a RAB On Demand eVENT smock ... very nice it is. I've seen them at go outdoors for less than £100.
I prefer GTX just because it's very unfussy about washing. Loads of waterproof coatings are hand wash only etc which isn't great if you regularly get covered in mud.
I got a, 60% off in their sale, Dare2b Stratosphere jacket
recently as I needed a lightish waterproof with a hood for a mountain marathon and I didn't want to spend too much. I was sceptical 'cos it was cheap but wore it out trailrunning on Dartmoor in the pouring rain and stayed suprisingly dry and sweat free. The sizing's a little bit generous but not too extreme, you'd probably be able to fit a fleece under it in your normal size. Weighs around 400grammes.

Well I did see a load in the Torquay branch of TKMaxx the other day for around £35 with a wider choice of colours than the above website if that's any help.

I've just got a Scott Gore-tex paclite jacket fom the bike shop at Grizedale.
Wore it for running on Saturday and I've worn it for cycling too.
100% dry and the sweat content was better than any other waterproof I've tried.
