[Closed] Cycling in/around/across Orlando

I'm currently scheduled to attend a conference at the Orange County Convention Centre "in" Orlando at the start of May.

Nearest hotels are a taxi ride away and I don't really like the thought of staying in one of the resort type hotels so looking at downtown.

Does anyone have any experience of cycling in Orlando - I assume there's very little in the way of cycling infrastructure - is it safe?

Also does anyone have any experience of staying downtown? I'm thinking local bars/eating places rather than the resort type massive omni-joints.
